View Full Version : Week 16, Who to root for . . .

Pats over the Bills opens up a wildcard spot if we finish with a better record, so Pats
Obviously Green Bay over the Browns
Cards over the Colts
Ravens over the Bengals (this one is key for us winning the Div)
Denver or the the Raiders . . . Not sure, but if the Raiders win they will play harder against the Colts the next week as they will still be vying for a WC, so I guess Raiders
Houston over the Chargers
Saints over the Dolphins
Titans vs 49ers is a toss up cause the Colts will be playing for a playoff spot for the rest of the season so the Titans locking up the Division makes no difference.

The only thing I’d say is: 49ers over the Titans
Why? NFC over AFC.

Kind of…
As much as beating the Chiefs would be a good thing, it’s not actually a “must win”.

Well I see the point of view. If we can beat the Chiefs that would actually give me hope they could do something in the playoffs, maybe at least winning wild card week.
Being one and done is worse than just not making the playoffs

Of course I would love a win against KC.
My expectations are low.
In my path to the playoffs calculating, I always mark yhis game as a loss.

We really don't want to lose to the Chiefs. The scenario above relies on everything going JUST SO - basically everyone losing every game except where it's unavoidable because they play each other, and those breaking our way too.
Just like the wild card race, someone is going to win 2 or 3 more games. We'd better get every win we can, or our playoff chances probably go down from the 40% range to single digits. I don't want to be waiting around for some bullshit like "we make it if we win out, but only if the Jets beat the Bills and the Chargers lose to the Raiders and also lose another game, but it can't be the Broncos, so it needs to be the Texans, and the Raiders are already eliminated so they're not going to try very hard, etc. etc."
Good thing we have that fucking tie.

Clarificatuon: Winning is always better. No doubt. It’s just that beating the Browns and Ravens are more important than beating the Chiefs. A win against the Chiefs moves us ahead a half-game in the AFC North; those other two move is ahead a full game.
The tie isn’t the game I wish I had back; I want that first Bengals game. If we had that win, we’d currently control our own destiny.

Realistically speaking, I think we control our own destiny if we win all three games. If we do that, it would take almost the reverse of what I described to knock us out of at least a wild card - literally everything would have to go against us in the other games.
You are right that the Browns game (both division games) are more of a "must," but losing any of them takes so many paths off the table that we'd basically be praying for a playoff berth to fall into our laps.
You're technically also right that turning a loss into a win would be more helpful than turning a tie into a win, especially when one is a division opponent and the other is not even in your conference. But that tie is just so fuckin' stupid.

If the Bengals win out they win the division no matter what we do, and winning the division seems like our best shot at a playoff berth. 10 wins probably gets us a WC spot, but 9 wins might not.
I agree that I’d much rather have another win than that stupid tie, but it does give us a tiebreaker over any team with the same number of wins as us.

Considering the lack of starters and a 3rd string QB that just got picked up, they are making a game of it.

The third string QB isn’t their problem. It’s the depleted secondary.

A Bengals loss would have helped, but we can still hope that the Bengals lose to the Chiefs and Browns (while we win 2 of 3).
Chargers losing to the Texans is the upset of the season.

Burrow is the real deal. He's going to dominate this division the next 10 years (barring injury).

If I was a Bengals fan I think I would have lost it on their coaching staff. They're up 20 points and Burrow is running around in the pocket getting tagged by a frustrated Ravens defense. What a shit storm that would be if he had gotten hurt.
