I never felt this level of pain before, and I grew up watching Tommy Maddox.

I can wager a guess this is how Steeler fans felt in the Early 80's when they saw the end of Bradshaw.

Yeah. This isn't even that bad yet.

There are bright spots on the roster. We haven't reached the point where Dwight Stone is the most dangerous offensive player.

Nah, there was always Louis Lipps and that hard hitting defense. And even after Bradshaw was gone, I remember Stallworth just kept being so damn reliable of a target that it was just amazing to watch.

Still, every Steelers game was like a street fight, so even as they went on that quest for decent QB's to be competitive with guys like Brister, Stewart, Maddox, O'Donnell....it was good football to watch.

I know fans are passionate but pain? Really? If your favorite team causes you "pain" then seek help. Yes the games can be "painful" to watch be seriously these are all just millionaires playing a kids sport.

Except for the years with Joe Walton or Ray Sherman at OC. :chuckle:

The pain is real because I bleed BLACK & GOLD. The man who gave this team hope is now the achilleas heel. It's hard to watch your heroes fall and a defense who wastes their apex after desperation flat passes on third and long. This Steelers team gives me diarrhea.

Honestly when you know you already suck, the losses aren't that disappointing.

True. I just remember some games where Lipps was out, the running game was stuck in neutral and the only hope of moving the ball was heaves in the direction of Stone on a straight go route.

Then there was when Brister would overthrow the 6'8" TE. All super fun!

I watched them all, just as I do now. They were fun to root for then and still are/will be now.

I remember on a couple of occasions where Stone was hit deep and wound up running out or stepping out of bounds…with no defenders around.

I understand, I was once young and passionate about the Steelers as well. Playoff losses affected me, but life, a wife, kids changed all that. As you get older you realize it is just a game and even after they win a Superbowl (which I've lived long enough to see all 6) nothing in your life changes the next day or day after that.

But hey, enjoy it the way you want, but in the famous words of Sergeant Hulka:

I can wager a guess this is how Steeler fans felt in the Early 80's when they saw the end of Bradshaw.

in the early 80's the steelers werent dominant anymore but they were still competitive - it didn't really feel all that bad because were coming off so much success and dominance in the 70's that we as fans knew it couldn't last forever. the team realized its potential, and they gave us great memories. I think i started getting hungry for more success in the late 80's, maybe the FO felt like that too - as that's when chuck Noll retired.

this feels a little different, i feel this team had some great games and seasons but they didn't realize their full potential for pretty much a whole decade, even with such a talented team on offense with the Killer B's. Hoping they can rebuild and get back to dominance more quickly - i think they have a better chance of doing that then the 70's team - where all the guys got old and retired over a few years. This team just needs a good QB and matured OL and their right back in it.

Hey to the OP, consider this to be exciting times, this may be the first time in your lifetime that the Steelers can draft in the top 5.

I suspect that happened more often than not. Stone was part of that era of converted sprinter WRs that had little interest in physical football...

I think that breaking in on late Malone, early Brister era Steelers...anytime they have a playoff caliber season, I'm happy.

So this year and next being a down year...not a problem. There is still fun stuff to watch and interesting roster construction ideas to talk about.

exactly how I feel. It really puts different perspective when watching game and you have zero confidence in a win. I’m wondering if Tomlin is going to grow a pair and make a move. I believe it will take injury to Ben. I thought 4th quarter yesterday was easy decision to make a move to see what Rudolph could do. Had he moved chains and scored a couple of times then the harder decision would’ve been this week. Pretty disappointed in Tomlin since game was over. 1-5 or 2-7 is when he’ll do it IMO. too little too late.

It's a no-win situation at QB right now imo, they most likely won't make a move unless Ben gets injured. The Steelers seem like an organization that will let the old vet go out on his shield, even if it means hurting the team. I get the reasoning, they don't want to do a guy dirty who won them 2 super bowls. With that said, doesn't make it any less frustrating to watch when you know it's over and they still hang on to it. It's like being stuck in a bad relationship that's gone stale :chuckle:

to the OP, hey it's better to feel pain than nothing at all :chuckle:

These guys get paid really well to play like shitbags, so if they can't get anything done that resembles competence then they can go jump in the fucking lake, and I'll be damned if I let these divas get an ounce of my empathy. So I'll support them (because they're my team) but they've made me very cynical about their bad habits during the last decade, and if they fail to improve then I'm only going to express ridicule when they lose, especially when they don't look like they're even trying. And this is why my pain died a long time ago. Screw them if they won't give me any reasons to watch.

I stay optimistic because they have the groundwork of the infrastructure for a young QB to be successful. They don’t have that player. Yet. But he’d be walking into a decent situation.
