Do you think TJ should have been practicing? I thought he was doing practice in pads, just not playing the preseason games. If this is so, I'm not a fan of this idea at all.

Well I guess that's the way the Steelers wanted it. I don't like it for the reasons Moats mentioned in the video.

This doesn’t really answer the real question: was this an ongoing negotiation through preseason, or was the deal already basically in place for weeks and they didn’t sign it because the team didn’t want TJ doing full team practices?

If it’s the former, the arrangement makes total sense. Nobody wanted TJ to hold out during negotiations so they agreed to a half measure. But if it’s the latter, then I totally agree with Moats.

Typical Tomlin " Cupcake Factory "...Watt and Tuiit, No pads ALL preseason, Open up at Buffalo, who will steamroll us, THEN Captain Dumbass will talk all tough with his cliches...

I've never seen anybody run a looser Ship than him... Probably why he continually, severally, underperforms every postseason...

But hey, He talks a good game!

From how I read the article, it seems like someone above Tomlin's pay grade would have made that decision." Agreeable by both parties" and "The Steelers" tells me Rooney was ok or made this decision.

The whole strange, curious situation was an arrangement agreeable by both parties.Watt didn’t want to be a holdout while waiting for a contract extension. And the Steelers wanted him in training camp. So he agreed to report and the Steelers agreed to not have him practice until he signed a new contract.

Wow! Your posts just keep getting more and more insightful. Why not do some research before you make such ignorant comments. Either that, or go post on a board of a team you like.

Manages to ignore the numerous critical players around the league who don't really do preseason. But...yeah...it is a Tomlin thing.

Wasn't there a year that Troy P signed like day(s) before the opener?

Ward too? Maybe he was two or three weeks?

I’m certainly not going to defend a post I don’t agree with (Disco’s) but to give him the benefit of the doubt, I think the Watt half-measure might be confusing to some; as if it were a Tomlin decision to just not have a healthy Watt practice with the team. It was clearly a compromise on the part of the team to prevent a full on hold out during negotiations (and I’m sure TJ much prefers this than staying home). Tomlin never had the option of making Watt take part in full team practice.

As far as Tuitt goes, of course Tomlin would have had him practicing in full too if it were feasible. The problem there is that we just don’t know exactly what’s going on with him (probably a combination of an emotional issue and a physical one) . But if Tuitt were good to go he’d be practicing... obviously. :)

Ward too? Maybe he was two or three weeks?

I remember the Ward hold out, and the story is Ward hated it so much, especially having to watch his teammates play in preseason without him, that he called his agent and said, “work it out as best you can, but I’m going back to my team.”

And because of that, it was the one time that Cowher got personally involved in a contract negotiation; basically saying, “he’s a Steeler. Pay the man.”

In all honesty, when a sibling of yours dies, please inform us of when & where the funeral is… that way we can all show up and throw cupcakes at you.

The same people that bang Tomlin for being too soft would crucify him if either player got injured 8n a preseason game.

There is absolutely nothing soft about either of those two players. If everyone played to their level, this would be one of the greatest defenses of all time.

People that bang on Tomlin are going to bang on Tomlin. It's what they do.

It must be because the Rooneys are too cheap to hire a real coach. ;)

Yes, "shortly" after the Panthers game according to the great Dulac.

Is there anything to be inferred by the fact that this deal isn’t done yet?

It’s possible that the front office is working on some last minute trade before the final cut down that’s distracting them from finishing this deal. I think we can also probably assume that this deal wasn’t already finished, and for some reason they were just waiting until after the Panthers game to sign it. If that were the case they would have signed it already.
