View Full Version : Steelers not done adding

lots of rumors clamoring that either today or tomorrow another high profile signing is going to be announced in Pittsburgh ... New Castle Pa Kid Malik Hooker is receiving the bulk of that talk with some going to Steve Nelson in which I am far less inclined to believe as I believe he burned that bridge and it would take a ton of pride swallowing for him to come back here at a much lower number ( and he would have to do exactly that )...

If Hooker is healthy and added this secondary could be the best we have fielded in decades

Indeed. So many rumors.

The Steelers wanted Justin Houston, but signed Melvin Ingram for half the cost… leaving room for Malik Hooker.

Or, Steven Nelson.

Or, Gareon Conley.

Benny Snell to the Rams for a 5th (that could turn into a 4th with playing time).

A major trade (including the 5th/4th for Snell) for Xavien Howard. Howard is very unhappy that he hasn’t been extended; the Steelers have the MOST cap space of any NFL team in 2022. Unlike Nelson (who didn’t understand the concept of “delayed gratification”), Howard is smart enough to come here, sign a new deal that pays for the final year of his current contract… but, with a HUGE signing bonus that can be pushed to next year’s cap. After Ingram was signed, Terance Garvin (currently a Dolphin) tweeted that the Steelers are “not done yet” and that “biggg news” was coming.

So, yeah… Steelers social media is a big crazy right now.

I would be stoked with a Hooker signing lol...I watched that Dude in HS ( Football and Hoops ) 5 mint away from me...He played Center in Basketball, and dominated inside against 6'7"- 6'8" kids, with his explosiveness and leaping ability...

If his injuries haven't sapped him of his athleticism, He would be a great pickup!

Rams need OL help. They have Cam Akers(injured) and Darrell Henderson. Stafford should be able to keep 'the box' unoccupied. This could be a make or break season for McVay. Defense is solid. Is he truly is the offensive guru he's was billed to be or has he been figured out?

Malik Hooker has also been rumored to the Ravens.

But would a team give up a can of beans for Snell?? Pinto or green maybe, but nothing exotic like garbanzo beans, or something with molasses and pork. That is too much.

Starting too high in negotiations with Doritos. Maybe a bag of store brand ripple chips from Walmart. Have to be realistic.

I agree. James is really just a guy with a cool name, but I think he sees himself as something more than a #3 TE.

But as our resident TE expert, do you think we’re good with Gentry as our #3, or do you think it’s worth adding someone?

Well I'm not an expert, but if Rader could stay healthy he might take the #3 spot imo, but I'm guessing that will play out in preseason between Rader & Gentry. TE's at 6'8" really don't impress me. I doubt they will add another TE ( not sure who is available for cheap :chuckle:), so its a toss up at this time, one of them will be #3 the other on the PS imo.

I'm no expert either, but with Ebron and Freiermuth as solid 1a and 1b, I would thing #3 will need to bring more than TE skills. Such as ST player, backup FB as well, MUST block on the move, and doesn't cost very much at all. Other than the cost part, I don't see this guy on our roster currently.

Which is why I think Rader fits if the Team doesn't add a player from the dung heap. He good on ST, a decent blocker and can play FB, if he can stay healthy. That TE FA list above isn't better than what we have in house, imo. Stocker is the only one that may fit the teams needs that has a pulse. He can block and play ST & FB but isn't much of a receiver, doesn't seem to have any major injury history. If the price is right, why not?

I don't know enough about them. Just from reading profiles and such Rader and Gentry have below average athleticism and Dax is not going to block. Again, I am only going by articles I read.

Yes I would to Watson, but from what I've read the Texans want multiple first round picks and a LOT. Of course no one is going to pay that for a guy that could be facing a year suspended.

I would also go hard after Aaron Rodgers next year. Imagine winning the Superbowl, Ben rides off into the sunset and we take his money and sign Rodgers (who is a year younger and will be 38 next fall) like Brady did in Tampa and win another one (or two)!

Even under criminal investigation, there’s a realistic probability that that wouldn’t occur for a couple/few years down the road just based on the courts being so backed up. I forget what state it was but one of them is backed up by 34,000 cases.

After what Ben went through imagine getting Watson? Is it too hard to have a QB that doesn't have any rape charges?

Like I said things are lining up with Rodgers and Ben's careers. Ben retires after this year and is 100% off the books, Rodgers is a UFA after this year. At 38 he has a lot more left in his tank than Ben did at 38. Two year deal to Rodgers and see what happens. Hell Brady just won at 43, why not? That would give you two years to draft a QB to replace Rodgers. Imagine Rodgers throwing to Claypool, Johnson, Washington, Freiermuth and possibly Juju with Harris running or catching? Me likes!

I do not want Watson. Seems like a nice kid but I'd take ego over sex offender for $200 Aaron.

I realize that the sports media loves to ride Mr. Discount Double-Check's nuts more than anybody with the exception of Saint Brady, but the fact remains he has historically come up short in the postseason too. However, unlike Roethlisberger, every excuse in the book has been made for his postseason failures (his coach sucks/his receivers suck/his running game sucks/his defense sucks, etc., etc.).

On a side note, I also have a hard time taking a poll that puts Dak Prescott in the top 10 seriously. Talk about overrated.

I don't think he's the top guy out there, especially at 37, but I do think he's a very good QB. I would take Josh Allen and Mahomes over him if it were possible but we all know those guys aren't going anywhere.

Yes Rodgers has only won once (we all know when) but Marino only made ONE Superbowl and never won. I would take Rodgers and his "ego" for two years with our offense and defense and roll the dice like Tampa did last year. You can say what you want about Brady and the sports media but the guy has won 7 Superbowls.

I see a ton of Rodgers out my way and...in this case there is more truth than fiction to the myth. He has dragged several fundamentally flawed teams to records they wouldn't have without him and then in the postseason, the roster finally turns into a pumpkin. Maybe he isn't as good as they say...but maybe he is. Either way...if the Steelers 2022 starting QB was Aaron Rodgers, they would be a SB contender.
