Paxton Lynch (https://www.nfl.com/players/paxton-lynch/)'s NFL career began with a first-round selection by the Denver Broncos and followed with stops in Seattle and Pittsburgh. Now he's bound for the Great White North of Canada.
Lynch has signed with the Canadian Football League's Saskatchewan Roughriders, the team announced (https://www.riderville.com/2021/06/28/riders-sign-former-nfl-first-round-pick-qb-paxton-lynch/).
Lynch's long and winding NFL road most recently saw him depart from Pittsburgh, where the Steelers cut him in September of 2020. That short stay followed a previous stop with the Seahawks, but the Broncos stand as the only NFL team Lynch has logged playing time with.

The only way to get better is to play. I hope he gets another shot in the NFL if he can succeed up north.

He has some tough competition.
-Cody Fajardo from Nevada,
-Luke Falk from Washington St.
-Mason Fine from North Texas,
-Tom Flacco from Towson and
-Isaac Harker from the Colorado School of Mines
are all in that QB room.

always liked Falk , but his NFL transition when he got an opportunity he looked like a deer in the headlights ..sacked 16 times in 73 pass attempts zero TDs 3 ints .... granted it was the Jets and everyone including Darnold sucked in that system so who knows ...

Former NFL quarterback Paxton Lynch has earned a roster spot with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
He signed a two-year contract with the Riders in June which runs through the 2022 campaign. However, it does include an NFL window if teams from south of the border coming calling after the 2021 season.
Lynch’s compensation for the current year includes $65,000 in base salary, $3,600 in housing, and a $200-per-game active roster bonus. He can also earn an extra $500 for every game in which he plays 51 percent or more of the offensive snaps.
There are all-star and award incentives available in his deal as well: $1,000 West Division all-star; $2,000 league all-star; and $3,000 for being named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player.

Just a reminder, those salary figures for Lynch are in Canadian dollars. The CAD is worth about 0.80 USD currently.

best case scenario he is CFL MVP he brings in around 71k Canadian $$ which turns out to be around 57k a year ... far cry from practice squad money in the nfl that varies between $9,200 and 14k PER WEEK.

He's backing up Fajardo. Lynch will play only a handful of snaps if any this season. I hope he can learn from this and develop, but at 27 years old this is probably his last stop if it doesn't work.

Do many NFL washouts end up having success in the CFL? I haven't heard of many other than Doug Flutie

I have no idea. Never paid much attention to the CFL. Probably won't start now either. Doesn't mean I don't wish him luck and success, I do.

A quick scan of the Saskatchwan roster and a few names like Louchez Purifoy (Florida), Nick Marshall (Auburn), Keion Adams (Steelers), Tim Williams (Bama) stand out. I read somewhere that Martavis Bryant was playing in Toronto, but had not showed up yet....shocking.

Yeah, Flutie was a guy that resurrected his career in Canada and went back to the NFL. Erik Kramer was another guy that went from CFL back to NFL.
But a lot more guys wash out of the NFL and I think go to the CFL and try to pull a Flutie, but just dont have game any longer. Quick scan of the Toronto roster and you see names like Shane Ray, Kony Ealy, Eli Harold. There are even some Steeler draft picks like Crezdon Butler and Shaquille Richardson that never made it with the Steelers and are in Toronto now.

Seems the CFL's disparity from the NFL is significantly widened from the old days.

Yeah, it doesnt look like he will get that $500 CAD roster bonus for playing 51% of the team snaps.
Cant really say that he hasnt been given a chance. #3 QB in Seattle, #4 QB in Pittsburgh, #3 in Saskatchewan at his last 3 stops. Almost time to start selling insurance.

selling insurance would likely come with a raise at this point .........

:iagree: Yup, from an earnings standpoint, a good drywall finisher is a better career move than 3rd string QB in the CFL. At least he has that Bronco's money in the bank hopefully.

Just thought I would check in on former Steeler QB.
After 17 weeks of CFL action, Paxton Lynch has played 0 games, 0 Completions, 0 ATT, 0 Rushing ATT, 0 Yards. Rumors are he is checking into rehab with an addiction to Maple Syrup. https://www.cfl.ca/players/paxton-lynch/165215/
