Troy Polamalu will be presented to the Pro Football Hall of Fame by the man who coached him for virtually his entire Pittsburgh Steelers career.

Dick LeBeau, the long-time Steelers defensive coordinator, will present Polamalu when he is inducted into the Hall of Fame on Aug. 7 at Tom Benson Stadium in Canton, Ohio.

Polamalu hinted at his choice of LeBeau in a social media post Tuesday, and the Hall of Fame confirmed the announcement Wednesday on Twitter.

“Can you please tell them that all I did was follow you,” Polamalu wrote in a Twitter post that included a picture of him and LeBeau.

Not to toot my own horn, but I knew all along that he would pick Coach Dad to introduce him!

This made me wonder who Jack Lambert had introduce him at the HOF,

I found out it was Dennis Fitzgerald, his DC at Kent State.

All Makes sense

Can’t think of a more appropriate choice. Troy was always gonna be a star but DL really gave him the freedom and confidence to truly live up to his potential. I’ve never seen a strong safety be used in quite the same way as DL used Troy P.

Not surprised. LeBeau is like a father to Troy. I remember Troy uncharacteristically playing around after a pick and tossing the ball carelessly to another Steeler that almost turned it back over. Troy came to the sidelines and LeBeau was incensed. I had never seen Coach LeBeau ever that angry. Troy was in tears and later they were hugging.

I remember that exact play. (I wrote about it at TPOP.) It was at the end of a game, and all Troy had to do was “go down” to win the game; his running around gave the other team the slightest opportunity for a fumble. For those who wonder why that matters, Google “Marlon McCree”.

On that same exact day, a Seahawk DB intercepted the ball at the end of a game, and he too ran around needlessly. But, instead of making it into a learning lesson (as Dick LeBeau did with Troy), Pete Carroll chest-bumped the DB and ran around the field cheering.

It will be a sad day in Steelers Universe history if this news leads to the shutting down of Troy P HOF thread.
