Linked here is Drafttek's updated, seven round mock NFL draft. "You Be The GM" is you looking at each of the picks made in each round of the Drafttek mock and choosing to either keep that pick if you like it, or you can 'choose' any player following the Steelers' pick, in each round. If a player you like is gone by the time the Steelers pick you must pick another player or pick the player you like in an earlier round. Then post your picks in a reply to this thread.

I would be very happy with that draft!

I'm working on mine. I think that Darrisaw is way too much of a reach in the first.

Round 1: 24 Najee Harris, RB, Alabama
Round 2: 56 Jaelan Phillips, Edge, Miami (Fla)
Round 3: 87 Landon Dickerson, C, Alabama
Round 4: 118 Aaron Robinson, CB, UCF
Round 5: 151 Tommy Doyle, OT, Miami (Oh)
Round 6: 189 Khyiris Tonga, DL1, BYU
Round 7: 208 Josh Imatorbhebhe, WR, Illinois
Round 7: 217 Tommy Tremble, TE, Notre Dame

I'm not sold on any of the OTs at the end of the first. I think that Doyle is a massive human and a sleeper who could play OT for us. Picking Harris in the first settles the RB discussion for four years, at least. Phillips is young and raw, but a freak athlete at 6'5" and 265. Dickerson is a leader and a future anchor for somebody's OL. Tonga is a big man who could provide depth while he hones his skills for the next level.

Except any RB will not work if they don’t have a solid OL in front of them, and we don’t right now.

Bolton is a hell of a player. I just think with their first pick they will be focusing on the running game, whether that's an OL, RB, or a TE.

I hear what you’re saying. But... I also saw teams target the ILB spot against our defense. I think running north-south solves a good portion of our running woes; whereas, our ILBs simply aren’t talented enough.

Also, Hill in R5 is a steal. And, Felton is a matchup nightmare... especially on third downs. If the opposition goes heavy, you split Felton out wide; if the defense is in dime, you run it up the middle. That list has both of them a round (or two) lower than I feel that they’ll actually get drafted.

I really don't get the call for an ILB in round 1? There are a lot more pressing needs. I thought Vince Williams did a solid job and Spillane looks like a solid backup. A lot more pressing needs

Draft mostly looks good, if anything, they could stand to draft a TE higher

Bince is one of my favorite players, but he could be a cap casualty... and honestly, he’s limited. Spillane is a backup. A good backup, but a backup nonetheless.

I’d love to get Freiermuth (and I think he’s a strong possibility in R2), but in this mock list, he wasn’t available at 55. I considered Brevin Jordan, but opted for the Troy clone.

What's more important, a 2nd ILB that isn't athletically limited or an offensive line that can run block?

Obviously, it is really early right now, but if Freiermuth shows out at the combine then I believe he slides up a lot of boards.

I’m not against O-line. The best center at the Senior Bowl was available in R4. I looked for his name, plugged him in, and built my draft from there. Honestly, I figured he’d be a R2 pick.

As far as our O-line goes, I think we either move Okorafor to LT or we re-sign AV. I actually prefer to let AV go. Then, Dotson is a stud at LG, Meinerz at OC, DeCastro at RG, and Banner returns at RT. When they were blocking north-south, the run game looked a lot better. The drawn out east-west runs made them look worse than they are.

For months, I had him at 32.

So, I agree... he won’t be there at 55.

It's not a call for ILB in the 1st. It's take the best player on the board in the first. Parsons, Bolton, or Collins could easily be the BPA at pick 24.

In R2, I could easily have stuck with Creed Humphrey (and still taken Meinerz in R4... to bolster the interior of the O-line). But, I was looking for an excuse to add a dynamic, long-hair Polynesian safety from USC to the Steelers roster. :wink02:

Yep.

Never decide who you are going to take or what position you are going to draft until you see who is on the board. If an unbelievable player falls to you, you have to take him almost regardless of your position needs. At the very least, you try to take advantage of another team that is willing to move up to get that player.

Predetermining a position to pick in the first round is the easiest way to screw up the draft.

Dupree blew a knee on 12/2. Even if he is resigned, when will he be back and close to 100%? I agree that you always go BPA in the first couple of rounds. But those are also BPA in areas of need.

I really see us picking OL, RB or Edge in order of the BPA on the Steelers' board in the first three rounds.

When you have a SS starting at one of your ILB spots... I’d say that that would signify a need.

With AV getting regularly beat, Pouncey on his last legs and Conner always hurt, I like the threads authors take.

Very nice but, Isn't Tremble projected much higher than the 7th?
