Navigating through the 2021 NFL Draft will be as difficult as ever. But the Pittsburgh Steelers are projected to receive a couple extra draft picks to make that process slightly easier. Over The Cap’s Nick Korte, the leading expert on all things compensatory, released his final projections for what the 2021 comp picks will look like. He projects the Steelers to receive a 4th and 6th round compensatory selections (https://overthecap.com/projecting-the-2021-compensatory-picks/). The 4th rounder is for the loss of Javon Hargrave while the 6th rounder is for the loss of Sean Davis.

If Davis is back on the the team, do we still get a 6th round comp pick for him?

The Steelers easily moved on from Davis after acquiring Minkah Fitzpatrick. Davis signed a one-year, $4 million deal with Washington but failed to make the team and was cut before Week One. Pittsburgh scooped him back up for the regular season, though Davis’ time was almost exclusively limited to special teams action. He did start the Week 17 finale after Terrell Edmunds missed with a shoulder injury. So it’s possible the Steelers get a comp pick without ever essentially losing the player.

Yes. He was signed away. After that it didn’t matter that they got him back.

It says there a possibility for another 6th round comp for Dirty Red. Or did I read that wrong?

I believe that is correct and possible.

Matakevich won't (likely) net a pick because it would be AFTER the max of 32 comp picks league-wide is doled out.

Don't understand how they calculate comp picks but I'm thinking 2022 has the chance to be a bonanza if we lose as many FA as we could, and don't sign many FA ourselves.

Crud!!! For whatever reason, I recall the discussion being that we would end up with a comp pick at the end of R3. I was reeeally banking on that pick (as to where to acquire our next RB).

There is a limit/max (I think it is three picks).

A team may not be awarded any more than four compensatory picks in one year. If the formula initially awards a team more than four, the lowest of the picks over the per-team limit of four are not awarded.

I was really hoping that was going to be a 3rd rounder for Hargrave as well. His contract puts him right on the border between the 4th and 3rd rounds. He is on the wrong side of the line for the team if that chart is correct.

these comp picks are more important than ever ... its more players on a rookie deal when we are looking at a potential large roster turnover , they are also more valuable than ever because they can be used in trade unlike before ( this just started what last year or 2 years ago ) and is an often forgotten factor ..
while that 6th rounder on its face seems like meh probably wont make the roster it could be the next pro bowl Punter , or a special teams ace gunner or just whats needed to move up in round 3 to get that kid that slid further than you thought he ever would ....
so yeah I would love to have a handful of those picks laying around
