Not a bad performance from our second string.
I think Mason looked pretty good. One bone head throw he had a great game.
Gameball:
highsmith.
Claypool
Mason
Goats:
Zero creativity play calling
Run blocking
(Although the playcalling could have been vanilla on purpose)

No goats except the ref's. Let's hope Matt Canada is OC next year.

The JV almost pushed the Browns out of the playoffs. No one gets a goat today. Gameball to everyone for playing a full 60 minutes in game they knew no one really cared about.
I will give a tip of the cap to coaching staff for the Dobbs 3rd down package (another fun sentence). A level of creativity and non-standard thinking that this staff doesn't always embrace.

It was actually an entertaining game to watch. Balls to Rudolph, Claypool, Highsmith and the Kicker. No goats. Let's hope we're ready for the playoffs.

Game Balls: Got to be Mason, DJ, Claypool, Highsmith and Wright.
Goats: AV and the O-Line. They just aren’t getting any push. Officiating was pretty terrible too. Missed 2-3 game changing penalties.

Mason did a very good job getting the deep ball down field. Honestly, he looked more comfortable (and ACCURATE) than Ben has throwing the deep ball this season. It was actually kinda refreshing seeing the Steelers move the deep ball through the air.

Mason had 315 Yards trough the Air today. Not bad at all.

Gameball: Rudolph... because, he played better than anyone expected.
Goats: The non-holding calls on three of Baker’s long runs. Buggs had a sack taken away, because the OG grabbed his arm and pulled Buggs backwards. Adding salt to that wound, Baker then ran for 20 yards. Adding lemon to that salty wound, the announcers gushed at what a gusty, playoff-caliber run it was. SMFH

Everyone played great today game balls all around. And if we see a fake toss to McDonald up the middle next week, I'll even give fitchner a ball

I think the other big thing with Rudolph is that he went into that Cleveland Stadium and faced that team where the "signature" and defining play of his career up to this point had occurred. Yes, I am talking about the helmet incident with Myles last year and the aftermath from it. That type of situation could destroy someone who is not strong enough mentally, and honestly I was worried that Mason may never overcome that.
So not only did he play well today and looked like a NFL QB, but his one game as the starter this year happened to occur in his "house of horrors". I believed this game was mentally going to be a huge challenge for him as well, but he put all that aside and played an excellent and poised game.

I think we should dress Dobbs for the playoffs.
I like his added running ability in short yardage and redzone.

Game Balls: Rudolph- Great game by Rudolph. Showed he is capable as a backup. Claypool- Can someone please explain to me why this guy was taken out of the offense in early December? Highsmith- Gets better every week.
Goats: I'll go easy here, key starters were wrestling.

Wasn't able to watch too closely, but from what I saw . . .
Gameballs to Rudolph. No, he's not the future starter we need, but I'd have no problem with him signing a long-term backup QB contract. Last year when he came in for that little bit in the last game, I said he looked better. He showed that again today.
Gameballs to the second and third stringers who came in and almost won against a playoff team. That should tell you something about the quality of the second stringers in our locker room.
Gameballs to the coaches for putting together a vanilla game plan with the expectation we're going to face them again in seven days. We get to go back and look at the film to see what all they did. They won't benefit nearly as much doing so.
Goats - Naa, not today.

btw: Rudolph’s throw to DJ was amazing.
GAMEBALL: The Browns defender who grabbed Claypool and didn’t let him jump for the two-point conversion. A tie and going to OVERTIME would have been the worst case scenario.

I thought Mason played very well. His footwork was much better and much quicker today. Highsmith was terrific, and Claypool once again showed that he is going to be a monster.
I thought the OL was a little better today. There was some room to run, and the protection wasn't terrible with the exception of a few plays.
I will also say that most of the subs played pretty damn well today. A bit of a rough start for some, but they got their legs under them and you could see the confidence building as the game went on.
There were no goats today. They played their asses off and nearly defeated a 10-5 team fighting for their playoff lives. Great effort by everyone from players to coaches.

Agreed, no under throws, but lots of in stride ones.

No one gets a Goat. The JV Steelers squad took the postseason-bound Browns to the brink.
Mason's balls grew to the size of planets over a single game. Even when he made his mistakes, he just sacked up and got better. I guarantee you he won't make those same mistakes again. Matt Canada's influence and Mason's hard work over the past offseason is paying dividends. Mason's growth as a quarterback is something very encouraging to look forward to, and it really puts the Steelers' draft plans into a new light. I think they look at RB and O-Line this offseason.
Josh Dobbs should work on wide receiver in the offseason. It looks like he's going to become a new "Slash"/Gadget Guy like Randle El. I'm perfectly fine with that.
Chase Claypool is a monster. He can't be covered without being mugged. Put on a few muscles in the offseason and he's a machine.
In other words, this was the greatest Steelers loss ever.

One underthrow in the first quarter to JuJu maybe? Really though, not many bad throws other than the interception and his throws had much more velocity (or appeared to) than last season.

Did anyone else notice that on Rudolph’s INT, he got clobbered across the facemask? I ask, because neither the refs nor the announcers mentioned it...

He was also clubbed in the head on that play

Rader looked good today. A TE that actually can block, also had some good tackles on ST

Better mechanics. Better footwork. He made quicker, better decisions, and was able to move his feet and step into throws to throw with power and with accuracy. A big improvement. He also moved within the pocket and outside the pocket a few times to get away from pressure. He did very well. Whether he could continue to do these things when teams watch more film and try to make him do different things is yet to be seen, but he should be applauded for a great effort today with a limited roster.

Yep, should have been a penalty.

I was impressed with Rudolph’s new found ability to move off his launch point, reset his feet, and throw off a solid base. Something he rarely showed last year.

Some of the most blatant non-calls on holding I think I've ever seen, in addition to not calling illegal contact after Rudolph got smacked it the head, which draws a flag even if a player's arm misses Tom Lady's head.

I was hoping they'd put Dobbs in for the 2-point try. I think it would have provided a better chance at conversion.

I'd list the refs as a goat and Tomlin, who could have held who's playing until he needed to, making us harder to prepare for.

I would hope so. Canada is big on footwork and having a good base to throw from. Mason wasnt great, but looked good and the footwork has improved.

Mason looked a lot improved, he could be a decent long-term solution as a backup QB
