Goats: GAME DAY THREAD!

Chase Claypool deserves top Hero.
He jolted the offense and got things rolling as soon as he got in the game. The Offense was total trash until he got involved.
When Ben started to hit Claypool, his arm mysteriously got better and he started going deep. Colts took people out of the box, the running game opened up.
Claypool is a game changer.

Gameball - goes to the team effort in the second half
Goats - me in the game day thread (although in my defense I finally started believing that Ben’s arm was toast after the first half terribleness)
Fitchner and coaching staff for the ridiculous gameplan that erased any passes more than 5 yards down field for what was apparently no good reason

Game Ball from me goes to Ben.
Ben looked totally different in 2nd half and threw with some authority and went downfield more which opened things up. This is what many of us on these boards have been saying for weeks now. It makes me wonder why it took so long. I also wonder if maybe Ben was physically hurting and took some pain shots at half time to get through it, as he looked like a completely different QB from midway through the third quarter and through the fourth.

Now the question is, do you play Ben next week to hope he builds off of this 2nd half performance? or do you give him a week off to rest?

I’d play Ben for the first half to try to get some first half rhythm going. Rudolph/ Dobbs in second half, much like preseason.

Game Balls - TJ Watt, Mike Hilton. Second half team also gets a game ball. Hopefully we will look back on this game as the pivotal point to which the Steelers regained their confidence and swagger as they run deep into the playoffs. The Chiefs have had A LOT of very close games. Games in which they could’ve lost had things not bounced their way...
Goats - first half team...minus TJ Watt and Mike Hilton.
I also like the way Highsmith played. He got a lot of push. Looked a little hesitant at times but I feel like he is trying to play smart and not make the big mistake. I also feel that he’s playing with his head and not off of instinct yet. He needs to keep watching tape of Watt...which by the way, did anyone catch Watt being double teamed towards the end by the tackle and Hynes where he just threw Hynes off with one arm? BEAST!!!

I really hope he can continue the way he did the beginning of the year and the second half of today.

Game ball: Defense, Conner, DJ, 2nd Half Ben
i don’t know what Ben and the team did to turn him alive in the 2nd half, but whatever it is have to keep it going for this team to have any shot
Goat: yes, there is one: the NFL for messing the Steelers schedule up during thanksgiving week. Should’ve never happened.

Game ball - me
let me explain, I didn’t have high expectations when the season started, then when my expectations rose after the 11-0 they started tanking.
for the good of the team I’ll keep my expectations as low as possible, they do better that way

Game ball to Myles Garrett (and other Browns players) for taunting the Steelers the past few weeks... only to lose to the Jets. :applaudit:
btw: Next week, a Steelers victory against them would eliminate the Browns from the playoffs.

Game ball to Frankie Reich for abandoning the run. Taylor looked on his way to 100+ easily but they stopped running and scored nothing after a 24-7 lead.

Talk about going into the playoffs and having no clue as to which version of the Steelers we will see.
The first half was a continuation of the past few weeks and it didn’t look like it was about to change.
That second half comeback, I was stunned by it.

They dropped the short passing game and Claypool was more involved in the offense. Ben's "bad arm" disappeared and started to attack more downfield. On that drive that resulted in the Red Zone TOD, Claypool caught three straight balls on that drive. Claypool was the spark the Offense needed.
Without Claypool, this is just 2019 all over again, which is what this offense pretty much resembled when he was missing. Ben looked like an overpaid Mason Rudolph.

Reminds me of the Steelers vs Chargers a couple years ago. Up 23-7 at halftime, then abandon the run game and lose 33-30. Reich pulled a Fichtner.
Oh, and JuJu should get some game ball love for leading the WR with 9 catches for 96 yds and 1 TD, plus some solid blocking on the WR screens. But, haters gonna hate.

Week in & week out, at some point in the game, Ben targets JuJu several times in a row... which kickstarts the offense. JuJu makes the catch, fights for the first, and captures the momentum. Stats be damned!!!

We all were after last week against the Bengals. And it looked for awhile that we were right.
But whatever they shot Ben up with at halftime, I wouldn’t mind some of that potion.

Claypool is good no doubt, but Ben started throwing downfield with more zip and accuracy in the second half than he has for the past month. Just hope it continues, the offense depends on it.

Two things are evident from this game
1. Throw to Claypool more. His involvement helps open up the offense
2. Keep Fichtner the hell away from playcalling. Have Ben call his own plays the rest of the season (This is more of an assumption that Ben took over playcalling in the 2nd half but a logical one, but a logical one)
They do this, they have a shot at reaching the AFC Championship game
