View Full Version : Week 14: For Whom to Root

For those of us who have time to watch other games, here are the teams for whom you should probably be rooting (because, these wins/losses will help the Steelers).
Taperiots @ Rams: Duh... GO RAMS!!!
Titans @ Jaguars: For playoff seeding... Go Jaguars.
Chiefs @ Dolphins: In order to help keep the #1 seed for the Steelers... GO DOLPHINS!!!
Colts @ Raidahs: I’m not sure about this one. We play the Colts later on; so, we can handle our own business/we can launch ourselves ahead of them (for playoff seeding). A loss by Da Raidahs guarantees that the Steelers make the playoffs. So many balls in the air. Pick’em (I guess).
Ravens @ Browns: Hear me out. In order to win the AFC North, the Steelers merely have to win the second matchup against the Browns. That’s it. Period. We should be able to handle that. Conversely, any loss for the Ravens puts them at risk for missing the playoffs. I know that it’s nice to have three AFC North teams in the playoffs (we are one of the few divisions to have done that multiple times over the past 15 years), but I don’t want to play the Ravens again. Plus, I don’t want Harbaugh rewarded for his handling of COVID. Lastly, the rest of the Ravens’ schedule is a cakewalk (we need them to lose this week). So... GO BROWNS!!!
Enjoy!!!

If Colts win the Steelers make the playoffs. Go Colts!
Dolphins need to go on a tear the rest of the way. They can beat the Chiefs, Patriots, Raiders, and the Bills if they win out.

Good thing about the Browns-Ravens game is that one of them has to lose and there's benefits to either scenario happening

Watching the Rams run the ball early so far is quite painful. WRs that block, TEs in the hole getting a block. Ten yard runs . Successful runs. It's almost like they play different game

I’d be fine with the Dolphins winning out. It helps us with our seeding AND it eliminates either the Taperiots or the Ravens (or both) from playoff contention.

The problem with playing the Chiefs is they can completely change the course of a game on a dime. You can be completely in control and play perfect defense and then something happens and in a small amount of time you are down and sometimes by a lot, hence this game

Yep, 49ers SB last year. They had what should have been a comfortable 4th quarter lead against literally any team except the Chiefs. I don't think even Brady with NE could have done it. Mahomes is a different animal though.
NE was more of the team that'd methodically march on you, KC is more like getting struck with lightning over and over again

I’d say our talent positions outside of TE are at least as good. Is it all in offensive play design?
They have Hill and Kelce, what else really as far as super talented players

They have better run blocking. They have better versatility at RB. The TE is far and away better than anything the Steelers have. They have a better playbook on offense. Much better playbook. They also have better cohesion on offense. Unless they are down two TDs or more with less than a minute to go, you’re probably going to overtime or going to lose with that team. They just score whenever they want and pretty much the drives they don’t, they are just setting you up for later...lol.

Yeah with crowd noise being nonexistent this year, offenses can audible on the road and don't need to do silent snap counts. Takes away a good part of the homefield advantage.

That bye week is huge. The Steelers haven’t had a true bye week all season and the team that gets that week of rest gets a really big advantage. Is it huge? Probably not but it’s a nice advantage to have. Especially this season.

Tonight’s game will be interesting for three of four AFCN teams (sorry Cincy!). Does Baltimore win and stay a viable WC contender? Do the Browns walk away with the W and end Week 14 one game back of the division-leading Steelers? If so, does that set up a huge end-of-season match-up with Pittsburgh for the AFCN title? Did anyone outside the shores of Lake Erie even remotely consider that scenario possible in September?
Tonight will tell us all something. Both teams can run the ball. Who can stop it? Both QB’s can throw the ball...when unpressured. Can they make passes and avoid turnovers under duress? Can either defense get to the QB enough to make a difference?
I know we’re all used to getting a good laugh at Cleveland’s expense. But if they win tonight, they’ll be making a statement. Especially with two games against the Gints and Gang Green between tonight and Week 17’s game against the Steelers in Pittsburgh.

No offense to you or our team rivalry but I sincerely hope for a winner take all week 17 matchup with the Browns.
Winning the division is so far down my list of priorities right now. I just want a couple weeks to get guys rested and ready for a deep playoff push. IF we enter week 17 tied with the Browns, then we start the run of domination right there. A 3rd round vs the Ravens is not enticing at all.

None taken!
Trying to put my shoes in the place of a Steelers fan, I’m not sure who I’d want to win tonight. If Baltimore wins, with remaining games against the Jags, Giants and Bengals, they should finish 11-5 and make the playoffs, as a potential adversary. I probably would wish to avoid that. But if Cleveland wins, they should beat the Giants and (if they lose to the Jets then the Browns are truly cursed), they would be 12-3. Pittsburgh may face a tough opponent when they host the Colts, so if they beat the Bengals (they should), they could be 12-3 headed to Cleveland. As a Steelers fan, I could not think of too many things worse than handing the Browns their first division title since George H. W. Bush was president.
If the Ravens and Steelers positions were switched, I think I’d be pulling for Pittsburgh tonight. Unless the Steelers offense picks up soon, it’s looking dicey.

The 'trouble' with resting Ben is he often comes back rusty and timing off. He seems to have to take time to get his rhythm back and a play off game isn't time to be 'practicing'.

Its a roll of the dice for sure but worth it IMO. Its not like his timing has been great, although timing on 3 yard passes isn’t really needed as much as a 10 yard out. Plus we can showcase Rudolph and hope to trade for a 6th rounder, lol.
