View Full Version : What is your most frustrating play call that we see too often with the Steelers?

For me I have one in offense and defense
In offense, when I see the steelers running the ball in front of a wall in second down and long, it's so frustrating and we see it too often like yesterday with a running play with Snell on second down and 14
In defense, when I see an LB like Dupree,Watt or other in front of a receiver, I want to fire Butler everytime, especially when you can easily avoid that with the personal right like putting Sutton and even Layne on the field.

On offense:
Screens to the WR. It is the rare moment when it picks up more than just a few yards. I think there are less difficult ways to go about picking up 2 yards.
On defense:
I want to fire Butler.

The draw was getting on my nerves yesterday, but it was working pretty well in the past few games.

On offense it's the bubble screen. This play literally hasn't worked one time it's been run ( I can't remember it ever working) and yet they continue to run this f-ing play every game
On defense it's putting a LB on a WR. Is there any particular reason why your all-world pass rusher is trying to cover a WR and not going after the QB?

Part of this is we’re feeling the absence of Mike Hilton. Tomlin has said that Hilton is so good against the run that they’ve been using LBs to replace... which doesn’t work so well in coverage.
I really hope we get Hilton back because Butler does some really stupid things to compensate for him when he’s not in there.

Except when Highsmith intercepts Lamar Jackson to turn the Ravens game around. :peace:

The wrap around draw. It NEVER works. I hate it with a passion because it consistently puts them in second and long or more often third and long. I’m also not a fan of the 30 yard pass on 3rd & short...more times than not, it’s an over throw...
Defense it’s when they are mismatched and know it’s going to happen. Granted it’s going to happen now and again but when you have a guy like CeeDee Lamb up against Dupree, Williams or Watt...it just isn’t going to work out well for you and it happens multiple plays in a row sometimes. I get that that’s how the defense works, but sometimes the personnel has to be adjusted.

I used to get frustrated when Butler would get cute and drop TJ into coverage. “TheY wOn’T seA tHat wOn coMing!!!” The “LB in coverage” seemed to switch to Bince, but oh well, at least it’s not taking our most disruptive force away from the LOS.
So, for a this season, my axe to grind has been with whatever has been causing those open receivers deep across the middle once (or thrice) per game.
see: Darius Slayton
see: Travis Fulgham
see: Willie Snead, Devin Duvernay, Miles Boykin
The Dallas game brought back the “Drop TJ into coverage” crap.
SUMMATION:
At times, Keith Butler outthinks himself.
Oh, on offense... it starts & ends with EVERYTHING that Randy Fitchner does.

Third and 4, third and 2...attempting a 20-25 yard pass play.

Offense: The entire running game. I hate handing the ball off to a running back that is standing still.
Defense: Any defense that has an LB on a skill player in man coverage

Long deep passes where Ben throws it far enough that it won’t get intercepted but ends up either being too long for our receiver as well or is out of bounds. Just a waste of a down to me
