View Full Version : Only #1 seed gets playoff bye, Chiefs or Steelers get it?

I was thinking about this given our current undefeated status. I am sure most of you know this already but only the #1 seed in each AFC/NFC conference gets a playoff bye going forward because there are 7 teams that make the playoffs per conference now.
We could finish the regular season with an awesome 14-2 record and be the #2 seed yet still have to play in the 1st round of the playoffs, how lame would that be? Given how early the bye week was forced on us this season because of the Titans Covid stuff we are going to really need that extra week this season. There's no home field advantage either this season (no crowds hurt obviously and just look at the stats) so being the #2 seed or #7 seed hardly makes a difference, it's either #1 seed or bust this season.
We just got to keep putting the voodoo curse on the Chiefs and Ravens to make them lose as much as possible. I feel like the Chiefs have at least 1 more loss in them either when they play at Tampa Bay or at New Orleans. Both those teams have the weapons to score points against that Chiefs average defense. Maybe Raiders will get lucky and sweep the Chiefs but I doubt it.
Beating the Ravens last Sunday was a huge win of course for us and maybe the Colts will help us this Sunday even more, if the Colts can't do it then I don't see too many other teams on the Ravens schedule besides us that can beat them. Maybe Titans pull it off or the Ravens have a head scratcher game and lose to an inferior opponent like we'll most likely have at some point.

You can only play the teams in front of you. The Steelers passed a huge hurdle in the schedule these last two weeks with the Titans and Ravens, and that has us out in the lead. Good teams find ways to win, and that's what we did, All kinds of bumps and bruises happen over the course of an NFL season. Most people think that KC is the better team (at least right now) yet they still have a loss hung on them.
The best thing is to root for the good guys and not worry about it too much. We already have a historic record, and good odds to extend it. The playoffs will have to take care of themselves, and while I'm not a fan of the expanded size of the playoffs, it is what it is.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the expanded playoffs either unless the Steelers are sitting there as the #7 seed one of these future seasons..lol.
I'm so nervous watching these games knowing we're one bad play away from Ben getting hurt and our awesome season going up in flames. I guess that's true for most NFL teams but man was our QB play ugly last season without Ben. Ben is getting long in the tooth and I think they really need to trade up high in the draft soon, like within the next 2 years once they feel like they found their next franchise QB. We will probably have to sell the farm in one of these drafts to pick high enough to get our guy but it will be worth it if our next QB can be anywhere close to the next Big Ben/Terry Bradshaw.
For now though, just enjoying this season one heartbeat at a time...even though it occasionally stops a few times during our games lol.

Can we just beat Dallas this Sunday? We are not even half way through the season and there’s talk about two teams being the number one seed? We had a bye in 2004 and lost in the AFCCG. We were a wild card team in 2005 and won the Superbowl. First team to do it. So right now......it’s Dallas.....WIN and hope everyone stays healthy.

The last thing the steelers need to do is to focus on a team who is not on the schedule in the regular season!

I remember that seed chasing a few years ago when Jesse James’ TD was overturned. Lot of good home field got us that year right?

Well guys we are fans...not the players so we can speculate and conjecture all we want without it affecting the season.

Remember the last time this team started looking ahead towards the defending afc champs? Yeah, keep it one game at a time

We can look ahead all we want, after all we're just fans on a forum, not the players on the actual team :tt03:

KC still has @Raiders and @Tampa so they're are not locked in at 15-1.
We need to win the next three games and take it from there.

Remaining schedule Steelers: @Cowboys, Bengals, @Jags, Ravens, Football Team, @Bills, @Bengals, Colts, @Browns
Remaining schedule Chiefs: Panthers, @Raiders, @Buccaneers, Broncos, @Dolphins, @Saints, Falcons, Chargers
Looking at these remaining schedules and Current team records(7-0 & 7-1), I would give the advantage to the Steelers at this point. I still think the Chiefs are probably the better overall team(3 phases) but the schedules favor the Steelers, IMO. But I agree with everyone saying take one week at a time/one game at a time.

Not to be argumentative, but that actually shows why home field is indeed important.
If Jesse’s TD counts, the Jaguars are playing at the Taperiots that weekend (as opposed to playing at the Steelers). In that particular season, all of the stars aligned; those top ten picks all of a sidden started playing like top ten picks, which made the Jags abnormally dangerous.
More importantly, if Jesse’s TD counts, the Steelers are not “looking ahead” for a “rematch” against the Taperiots. (The Steelers would have had no distractions.)
I’d be happy if we ended up as the #1, it would essentially be our bye week [emoji1787]
seriously 1-3 would be rad.
After the past two years of nut punches, I’d love any of those three places.
But we all remember the last time we looked a head... Jax jammed one in our pooper

All good points. But that's more about matchups than home field and byes.

Don’t root down to your opponent. Root one game at a time. Don’t root ahead.
We fans have totally rooted too far ahead in the past and ruined everything for the team! ;)
