With the signing of Ebron, trading for Howard isn’t likely going to happen.
But, let’s assume we go TE in this draft. I don’t see a TE available at 49 who would be better that Howard... specially not in his rookie season.

They aren’t in the TE market anymore...IMO. No trade, no draft...unless it’s the token 6th/7th pick TE.

My thoughts mirror 86Ward.
Rob Branchgentrypaulsonkranchik 2.0 IF we pick in the draft

I don't know about the TE market overall. They may draft one. But the thing with OJ Howard, is how big is the gap between him and Ebron? I would argue it is basically non-existent. They are both "move" TEs that drop a few passes and don't block well.
Why trade for a slightly better version of Ebron...when you have Ebron? I mean if you DIDN'T sign Ebron and you could get Howard for like a 5th rounder or something...absolutely. But you did sign Ebron...so why give up a draft pick to get Ebron 2.0?

Doubt they'll be any interest. I liked the idea a few months back but the Ebron signing ends the chance of trading for a tight end.
Maybe The Bucs can flip Howard to Washington for Trent Williams? He been wanting out and I'm not sure how much value he truly has.

Yeah would've been appealing before the Ebron signing. Now I wouldn't make a move on a TE this year

100% agree. Also what would it cost to trade for him?

Mock: 2. Antoine Winfield Jr, S/SCB, Minnesota 3. Chase Claypool, WR, Notre Dame 4. Tanner Muse, LB, Clemson 4. Jon Runyan Jr, OG, Michigan 6. Sewo Olonilua, RB, TCU 7. Bravvion Roy, NT, Baylor.
Not a bad mock, but there's not way Claypool will last to a comp pick in round three. If the Steelers want him, it would have to be in round two, and even then he could be gone.

I agree. I don't think Claypool is going to drop that far with his combination of size, speed, hands and route running skill. I think Van Jefferson might be there in the 3rd. I also think Jon Runyan is more of a round 5-6 talent.
4th is a bit of a reach, but I think there is a chance that Ben Bredeson from Michigan lasts until the 4th. He's a mauler, but not a great athlete and really short arms (31"), so interior pass protection could be an issue.

IMO, I see nothing that points to him being a round 2 caliber player. Of course it just takes one team but round two would be a reach. There are teams that see him as a tight end per reports.
Didn't show a developed route tree at ND, doesn't show much separation, nor did he show much YAC abilty. He's a vertical and red zone threat.
Compare him to someone like Pittman Jr who could be the pick at #49, it's not close.
*Just to note, this won't be my final mock. It's likely I'll be going offense at #49 though I have a crush on Winfield.

I'm a fan of those Michigan o-line players. I think Runyan is going to be make one hell of a guard if given a year to transition. Impressed during the Shrine Bowl as a tackle and guard, mauler mentality vs the run, gets to the 2nd level quickly, has bloodlines with his father being a former tackle, but an average athlete and didn't play much guard as Michigan so it's a complete projection. I also believe the Steelers will draft a player from Michigan since it was planned for Colbert and Tomlin to go to the Michigan pro day.
5th round is likely his 'ceiling' value but that late 4th could be seen as a early 5th. I like Kevin Dotson also from Louisiana.

As I posted in another thread...
On the topic of O-linemen, we could (possibly) get a Wolverine with many of our picks. (Michigan has an outstanding O-line.)
49: Cesar Ruiz*, OC/OG
102: Ben Bredeson, OG
198: Michael Onwenu, OG
232: Jon Runyon Jr., RT
*(he’d have to have a major tumble to drop this far)

I do as well. I was talking up Ruiz on here back when he was projected as a round 4-5 guy. I disagree with Teeg, as I think Ruiz should go anywhere from 30-50 and could be there with the Steelers pick.
Runyan played OT, but he isn't the athlete needed to play LT in the NFL and he isn't the mauler enough to play RT in the NFL other than as a swing tackle currently. Runyan will project to guard. I watched the Shrine game and he didn't impress me as a mauler or people mover the way Onwenu does, but rather he was efficient at getting a seal and leverage in the run game and good technique and footwork with interior pass protection.
Onwenu is a big guy and a road grader that moves defenders, but less of an athlete than the other 3 Michigan O linemen, so the interior D linemen will beat him with quickness IMO. I like Runyan before Onwenu, but if a team runs a scheme where they don't need Onwenu to pull and think they can improve his pass protection or help it with keeping a RB in for protection, then he could be more attractive a pick than Runyan.
