PITTSBURGH -- Mike Tomlin probably wishes his quarterback decision had been this easy all season.

Charlie Batch (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=1490), buried so deep on the Steelers' depth chart that he barely practiced during training camp, will start Sunday's AFC North game against Baltimore. Batch hasn't started successive games since midway through 2005, when Ben Roethlisberger (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=5536) had a right knee injury.
Batch started Sunday at Tampa Bay only because Dennis Dixon (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=11390) had left knee surgery last week and Byron Leftwich (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=4465) was recovering from a left knee injury, yet he completed 12 of 17 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns -- his first scoring passes since 2007.....................

“ http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/nfl/coaches/65/30063.jpg He's a man who's taken advantage of an opportunity, and you've got to be happy for him. It's an awesome lesson learned for our young players, one I hope they're taking heed to. This league is about perseverance, this profession is about perseverance and taking advantage of opportunities when they're given. He's given them a shining, clear-cut example of that at this juncture.
” -- Mike Tomlin on Charlie Batch

I just hope the line protects him like they did last week. I also hope charlie wins this game too so he can go out a hero. He deserves that much, he's a great guy!

I hope they make sure Lefty stays warmed up.

I love Batch and he's a very good backup QB, but this Ravens defense hits and rushes the passer and Charlie is rather injury-prone. I just hope he gets the protection he needs to slice and dice this Ravens secondary.

Charlie Batch didn't just earn coach Mike Tomlin's admiration for how he played in Tampa.

Batch, who threw three touchdown passes in the Steelers' 38-13 rout of the Buccaneers, will start Sunday when the Ravens visit Heinz Field.

"Guys have a great deal of confidence in him," Tomlin said Tuesday at his weekly news conference. "He's simply a man that's taken advantage of an opportunity, and you've got to be happy for him."

PITTSBURGH — There are no tough quarterback decisions this week for the Steelers.

Charlie Batch played so well last Sunday in Tampa Bay that he’ll start again this Sunday against Baltimore.

“He’s done a nice job, coach Mike Tomlin said. “We won last week. That’s a good place to start.”

Batch, who’s 35, completed 12 of 17 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-13 romp over the Buccaneers. It was his first start since the final game of the 2007 season, a 27-21 loss in Baltimore.
