Elliott returned to Cabo this past week, where he has been training during his holdout. The added twist in the ongoing saga is NFL Hall of Fame running back and former league MVP Marshall Faulk is training him, defending Zeke's contract demands while questioning the contract negotiations for Dak Prescott.

"This kid has basically carried this team the past three years," Faulk said of Elliott. "I'll be honest with you: If I'm Zeke, and I was sitting down, and I saw that they signed Jaylon Smith, I'm pissed. I'm just saying, I'm pissed."

Zeke has no reason to be pissed because the Cowboys signed Jaylen Smith because firstly, Smith was present in the training camp, secondly, Smith was the first to accept the offer of the Cowboys and Dallas had not only Elliott that this team had to sign and Smith is a very important player in this defense and third, not because Dallas signed Smith that it prevents the Cowboys from signing other players as Dak,Cooper or Zeke.

It's not so much like the Cowboys had signed a big free agent instead of signing Zeke.

I’d be offended if I were Elliott. He should get more than Gurley. Again, it’s not a hard concept...Elliott gets more than Gurley. Prescott gets less than Wentz and Cooper lands in the Brandin Cooks area. If they don’t want to play for that money then they leave...if they find someone willing to overpay, good for them...

Jones was asked if he regrets intimating that the team would be using Gurley’s contract as a jumping off point in Elliott talks and his answer touched on the Bell deal reshaping the playing field for running back contracts.

“No, I still think that’s within the realm. At the same time, I think the market re-set with Le’Veon,” Jones said. “I think you see what happens with Gurley and you get a great player like Le’Veon, who’s every bit as well thought of as Gurley and he had unfettered free agency. He had 32 teams with no draft picks attached, and the market was $13.5 million . . . less than Gurley’s. At the end of the day, business changes, and we pay attention to that.”
