I suspect that when LJ Fort sends you to the bench and you sign a FA at the same position then draft that position in the first round and 2 more times later on; that may qualify as reasons.

personally would rather seen Bostic stay and Dirty Red gone .... Bostic is a better fit to fill VW role if there was an injury ...

Seems weird to do it now unless they are doing it to be nice to him and give him maximum time to catch on with another team. Or did we have to do it now for some cap reasons?

I wonder if they tried and failed to trade him for a 7th rounder. There were a couple of trades like that this year.

Could/would Bostic play special teams though...that’s kinda what Reds roster spot is. Maybe a new guy can take his spot...
