Here is a short list of who we could draft tomorrow. I will add to this later tonight (or, in the morning). The players with an "*" met with the Steelers. So far, all of our picks have met with the Steelers. (Note: The Steelers were at Alabama's pro day.) Lastly, we might double-dip at WR, and it never hurts to double-dip at CB.

*Charles Omenihu, OLB, Texas
Christian Miller, OLB, Alabama
*David Long, OLB???, WVU
*Ben Burr-Kirven, OLB???, Washington
*Jordan Brailford, OLB, Oklahoma St.
*Justin Hollins, OLB, Oregon

Dionte Thompson, S, Alabama
*Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, S, Florida
Amani Hooker, S, Iowa
*Ugo Amadi, S, Oregon

*Foster Moreau, TE, LSU
*Alize Mack, TE, Notre Dame

Hakeem Butler, WR, Iowa St.
*Riley Ridley, WR, Georgia
*David Sills, WR, WVU
*Gary Jennings, WR, WVU

Julian Love, CB, Notre Dame
*Amani Oruwariye, CB, Penn St.
Isaiah Johnson, CB, Houston

... and, lots & lots of RBs

[NOTE: I will also add a trade up chart.]

Hope the Steelers move up and get CGJ. He's a ideal dime safety.

Then Moreau in round 5 hopefully, West Virginia has a great blocking tight in in Trevon Wesco

Mack Wilson has yet to be drafted. Ouch.

As we know they were at his pro day. Unless Moreau is there I can see him being the pick in round 5 if they don't take Moreau in round 4.

Picks and values

R4 (122) ... 50
R5 (141) ... 35
R6 (175) ... 21
R6 (192) ... 14
R6 (207) ... 8
R7 (219) ... 3

Trading up in R4:

R4 (50) + R6 (14) = 64 ... Pick 115 (thirteenth pick)

*R4 (50) + R6 (21) = 71 ... Pick 112 (tenth pick)

R4 (50) + R5 (35) = 85 ... Pick 105 (third pick)

**R4 (50) + R6 (21) + R6 (14) = 85 ... Pick 105 (third pick)

* good value

**this seems like a steal, if there’s a guy who “fell” and they wanted to get to the top of R4; plus, you get to keep the R5 pick.

Stanley Morgan(WR)
Mike Bell(Safety)

*Foster Moreau, TE, LSU
*Alize Mack, TE, Notre Dame

We have a dire shortage of useless 7th-round TEs who stay on the roster for several years despite the fact that they suck shit and we don't really need a fourth tight end.

Grimble is kind of holding down that spot, but is a little too athletic and seems to bounce between TE2 and TE3, so he does not quite fit the mold, although he is pretty useless.

Moreau is the top-rated TE remaining by many accounts, so he can't be it simply because he won't be there in R7.

Mack, I don't know if he'll last that long either, but he's out because the useless tight end needs to be tall and lanky and run tentatively and awkwardly after the catch, and always look like he's going to fumble at any moment.

I have my eyes on Donald Parham (http://insider.espn.com/nfl/draft/player/_/id/103814) from Stetson, who is the worst-rated TE left that many people actually bothered to rate, fits the tall and lanky model great, and has the potential for extra disappointment by being 6'8" so people will go "wow, with that size advantage, he's bound to be useful as (a blocker, a red-zone target, etc., pick one)!" He even has a common first name and a last name that starts with PA, in the great tradition of Michael Palmer and David Paulson. This guy is SO in our wheelhouse that I will be throwing chairs if we don't take him with our final pick.

Lot of good football players on the board. I expect a run on the WR's and DB's. Of the players you mentioned Burr-Kirven had amazing production and first round numbers at the combine, no reason why we can't draft another Inside Linebacker.

Julian Love would be a really nice pick for the Steelers. For some reason, I think we pick Moreau, if he's on the board in rounds 4-5.

When it comes to round 6-7, those guys seldom pan out unless they are punters or kickers. With three 6th round picks, we could upgrade at punter or kicker.

With Conner and Samuels, Running back is not a need, but if a BPA guy slides to us I'd be okay with it after round four.

Mack Wilson has yet to be drafted. Ouch.

I'm hoping they end up with Moreau and Justin Hollins.

Mack Wilson looked terrible on tape to me, but I am surprised that some team didn't get teased by his athleticism. Tre Lamar from Clemson was getting hyped as well, but he is pedestrian in his speed. Germaine Pratt is a Bungle now.

Born2Steel

I would love to have Justice Hill become a Steeler if we do draft a RB today.

If we double down on CB Julien Love is my favorite still on the board. Isaiah Johnson is not a bad pick based purely on potential, and I really like Wyatt(SMU) late or UDFA.

I doubt we take another WR only because the WR room only has so many chairs. But...Harmon has been on 'my' list this entire preseason. A bit surprised he's still available.

Omenihu, Miller, Long, Burr-Kirven, Brailford, Hollins, Jelks? Yes please, I'll take any 2!

As for TE I could see not even drafting one with McDonald, Grimble, and Hodges unless it's the extra tackle type. Don't really need another 'Y-type'. That's why I agree it will be either Moreau or Mack or none.

Of the safeties left who has the best ball skills and best range, Ugo or Gardner-Johnson? Mike Bell from Fresno State is another physical freak that needs some training up and time in a pro conditioning system.

I agree with all of this. Heck, VW is good, but not replaceable. Long or Burr-Kirven provide depth, and honestly, competition. Plus, I've read that Burr-Kirven might be able to slide outside (and, likewise, I feel that Long could, as well).

As far as WR goes, we do not need one... but, with practice squad being so user-friendly, you can always stash one there.

San Francisco 49ers: Mitch Wishnowsky, P, Utah GENE SMITH Grade

Long ago, Jaguars general manager Gene Smith used a third-round pick on a punter. He passed on Russell Wilson in the process. This is a classic example of why you should never draft a punter prior to the seventh round. This is a wasted pick, and an easy "F."

10 picks to go.

Charles Omenihu had a great Senior Bowl. He is a huge OLB, but with so many dime packages, we sort of need an OLB who can also play DE.

David Long and Ben Burr-Kirven can provide depth at ILB, or even competition. Personally, I think that they can play OLB.

I want a pass-rusher. Period.

As far as other positions...

Caleb Wilson was a R1 talent who got injured. He has not reached his initial level of talent, but he could be a "steal" (if he regains his form). At worst, he is Jesse James's replacement (as the "decent" second TE).

Okay. So this kinda makes it sound less awful: https://thedraftnetwork.com/player/sutton-smith

"Sutton Smith's NFL project can go one of two ways: Smith can be used as a pass rush specialist and special teams ace, or he can convert to linebacker and utilize his short area quickness, effective hand counters and football instincts on the second level. Smith has the functional athleticism to play in space and often rushed off the edge from a stand-up position. His ceiling is a starting off-ball linebacker with quality pass rush contributions."

That reads like a ILB conversion project. Sits for a year or two, maybe pushes Bostic or Matakevich off the roster with a monster camp this year. And eventually slots in next to Devin Bush?

What I am reading on Sutton Smith(first time looking at him) is he is going to have to be position flexible. Meaning too small to play edge like he did in college. Pass rush specialist so an inside/outside/dime blitzer? Special Teams Ace? Maybe a Nix type situational player.

Posted this in the wrong thread earlier. Devin Bush, Sutton Smith, Ulysees Gilbert....The theme of this draft is under-sized LBs.

Maybe Colbert's gonna go Dr. Victor Frankenstein here and assemble 2 uber linebackers from the parts of all the other linebackers on the roster?

Malik Grant, S, Marshall
Mike Bell, S, Fresno

Jordan Wyatt, CB, SMU

*David Sills, WR, WVU
Kelvin Harmon, WR, NC State
Dillon Mitchell, WR, Oregon
Stanley Morgan, WR, Nebraska
Emanuel Hall, WR, Missouri

Heck… why not:

Why stop now:

Honestly, my eyeball test favorite on that list is probably Jordan Wyatt. Stanley Morgan and Mike Bell close 2nds.

Hopefully, some of the udfa will be better than some of these picks, starting with Gentry.

Often, they are... because, the player gets to choose a place that is a "good fit".

His special teams play keeps him around for another year.

Not sure how long Bostic will last with the Steelers.

Bostic is a $2.5 million cap hit on the roster - $700,000 in dead money bonus if cut

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/jon-bostic-12331/

same for Tyler Matakevich

Matakevich is a more cap friendly $735K cap hit, with a $15,764 ( :sofunny: ) dead money signing bonus if cut

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/tyler-matakevich-19200/

Ben Roethlisberger’s new three-year, $80 million contract (https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2019/04/24/ben-roethlisberger-contract-extension-steelers/stories/201904240102) will increase the hit on the Steelers’ salary cap in 2019 by $3 million.

https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2019/04/26/ben-roethlisberger-contract-steelers-salary-cap-2019/stories/201904260151

Both in terms of personnel additions and needing to find some cash for Ben's new deal, in addition to the massive AB cap hit, Bostic is not in a secure spot
