Steelers re-sign Matt Feiler

Posted by Darin Gantt on March 29, 2019

The Steelers developed Matt Feiler for threeyears, and he wound up with a starting job last year.

So it makes sense they wanted to keep him.

Per the league’s transaction wire, the Steelers re-signed the offensive lineman.

Feiler started nine of the last 10 games at right tackle last year, replacing Marcus Gilbert. Feiler has 11 career starts.

I wonder what the contract value is. I think Feiler is actually better suited to guard and may actually be the guy that replaces Foster in the future, but the fact he can play both RT and Guard is very much a plus on the O line.

Feiler was a ERFA so he signed his one year tender at $645,000, a contract tender that Mike Hilton has balked at signing.

Dong signing.

Pro Football Focus ranked Feiler 32nd out of 80 OTs, that's pretty respectable.

Feiler isn't hostage material, if you will.

No it was a dong signing, cause it was a cheesy signing where we signed the guy who performed well on our roster as a backup, rather than doing what a real 'great' GM does, by paying 20M a year to a 31 year old veteran looking for a big contract :chuckle:

Keeping the OL together was very important this offseason. I think the FO did a great job in doing just that. Sorry Gilbert ended up a cap casualty but I feel good moving forward at RT.

I'm okay with Gilbert being traded, seemed like he was always injured.

I agree. He has barely played the last couple seasons. On top of that, l don't like that he was suspended for using PEDs. Not being able to stay on the field combined with the knowledge of PED use makes me believe he will always be getting injuries and missing time.....or he will need to continue using and be a risk for future suspensions.

I think it was smart to trade him when they did.

Did we actually “lose” Gilbert? What I mean is: he’s barely played in two seasons.

Gilbert (when available) was the best RT in the NFL. Alas...
