Yes, the Steelers may not have to actually pay (https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/03/03/antonio-brown-wont-get-any-of-his-2-5-million-until-week-one/) any of Antonio Brown (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5698/antonio-brown)‘s $2.5 million roster bonus if he’s traded after March 16. But they don’t want the roster bonus to hit their books as of March 17, for cap purposes.
That’s why the Steelers have asked Brown to delay the due date of the bonus, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Brown declined.

Antonio Brown won’t get any of his $2.5 million until Week One

Posted by Mike Florio on March 3, 2019

Steelers receiver Antonio Brown earns $2.5 million on March 17. But he doesn’t receive it then. And that undercuts one of the biggest arguments in favor of trading him before then.

PFT has obtained a copy of the contract that Brown signed last March, and it specifies that the $2.5 million roster bonus due on the fifth day of the 2019 league year will be paid out in 17 weekly installments throughout the 2019 season. That works out to $147,058.82 per week, from Week One through Week 17.

This potentially means that, if Brown is traded at any point before Week One, Brown’s new team will assume all rights and responsibilities under the contract — including the responsibility to pay him an extra $147,058.82 per week from Week One through Week 17. As one league source with general knowledge of the procedures in this regard explained it to PFT, payment of the $2.5 million would become one of the negotiating points during the discussions culminating in a possible trade. The fact that the Steelers haven’t actually paid the money, however, makes it easier for the Steelers to take the position that the new team should pay the money.

This also makes Brown’s reasoning regarding the urgency to trade him by March 17 misplaced.

We are back to where we have been all off-season with this.

There is the cap dollars that the Steelers have to account for during the 2019 league year for AB, and that amount does change in the March window.

Then there is the actual cash money that the Steelers will transmit to Ab during the 2019 season, and that number changes depending on the specific date the player is traded.

Which is perfect. Now they can trade him or not just race him whenever they see fit with no deadline in the back of their heads...lol.

I just have a hard time envisioning teams getting all worked up and hot an bothered about the potential to trade for a guy who says .......

"I don't even have to play football if I don't want. I don't even need the game, I don't need to prove nothing to anyone. If they wanna play, they going to play by my rules. If not, I don't need to play." - Antonio Brown to ESPN.

I mean statements like those ( and wow all the others brown has said over the last couple months )

do not inspire me ( if I am a GM ) to go out and spend high value picks on a guy like that , it just doesn't ... not when my job is on the line and a trade like this could end your career if it ends badly

I really hope this asshole ends up on a team with a shitty QB and the last few years of his career suck. What a cancer.
