Dumping Distractions Doesn’t Mean Steelers Will Get Back To Winning Ways

Le’Veon Bell is gone. Or as he puts it, “free at last” because yes, 2019 is just as stupid as all the other years. Antonio Brown will almost certainly join him as departed superstars. And that should, in theory, bring a calm to the locker room. No holdouts. No subtweets. No…whatever message Brown was attempting to convey while running on his treadmill.

It’s clear those issues played some role in the locker room. Probably smaller than the media believes, distractions usually are the mole hill, not the mountain, but still, the environment in the locker room was heading in the wrong direction. No doubt about it.

But is getting rid of 26 and 84 the cure all? That the ship will be righted and the Steelers Super Bowl bound again? Not a chance.

Of course not, not without dumping the horrendous coaching.

Can we please classify Danny Smith as a distraction so we can dump him.

Gotta get to the source of the distractions.

And that is the coach. AB and Bell were merely the results of shitty coaching and culture, not the symptoms.

Until Tomlin is fired, the Steelers will never amount to anything higher than Marvin Lewis Bengal tier.

Or... when they got rid of Adrian Cooper, and then went to six straight playoffs.

Well it's not like these distractions resulted in postseason success either.

This. The only way this works out is if Tomlin uses it as a learning experience and NEVER allows it to happen again.

But as far as a Superbowl ... not with this defense and defensive coaches.

You guys are hilarious, I love you all.

What games would you have wanted AB suspended for? Because that is the only thing that Tomlin could have done that might (and that is a big might) have changed things. Let's assume that AB is late almost every workday and when he bothers to attend meetings his attention and focus is elsewhere.

Should it have been the Ravens game he stretched across the goal-line for the win and to secure a playoff berth?
Should it have been 2016 AFC championship game? The 2017 Divisional game?
Or maybe just one of those "normal" AB games where his 10 catches for over 100 yards and a score helped nail down a victory.

This is the same message board that essentially wants a coach fired for not playing the franchise QB for a half when he might or might not have had broken ribs. But now wants to argue that they should have not played the best WR in the league for a game or more because they are angry and frustrated. Oh...but injury isn't the same as being a jerk-off. Sure, but winning football games is. That is the only thing Mike Tomlin's paycheck is really for. Winning the most NFL games possible. "Managing" AB the way he and the team has (no way that the owner and GM are just finding out about any of this now) ensured the most prolific WR since Jerry Rice would be on the field and performing to his full potential for the most games possible.

Finally, if anyone seriously buys what AB is selling that this whole thing is about anything other than money...well I have some swampland in Florida I would like to speak with you about.
