Don't know how to word it but the Steelers are one of 4 NFL teams listed for the Iron's "assigned area":

Yep. Teams are “assigned” to schools and pro teams. Kinda knocked the shine off the league for me when I learned that.

It has to do with the team they played for. I saw a flow chart last week on how they assign players to which teams. Starts with college, then team, then something else. The teams aren't affiliated with any certain NFL team like a developmental hockey league. I didn't really grasp the concept, though.

I knew they were assigned areas as far as regions and colleges but the former Steelers players are

I see this league becoming like any minor league baseball franchise. It will always keep a fanbase of regular diehards and we will see some major players come through, but this will always be a little brother league to the NFL. The talent pool is 2nd chance NFL and CFL guys and not quite ready college players. Fun but meh.
