Long, long ago (1989)...

Going into the final weekend of the regular season, the Steelers needed FIVE teams to lose (plus win themselves) in order for the Steelers to make the playoffs.

Today... we need just one team to lose: the Ravens.

Then they beat the Oilers in the Wild Card game in OT. One of my favorite victories of all time. They should've beaten the Broncos too...

Brister’s fumble still hurts.

I drew a blackline picture of Meril Hoge from that game... which my parents still have mounted in their den.

I didn't give a rat's ass back then. No team. Little interest.

How things change!

That Oilers playoff game was Noll's true final chapter. Only the Emperor could get that team full of offensive no names to win in the Astrodome.

A lot of people (in my neighborhood) were into the NBA (Lakers) back then.

Bubby Brister and Louis Lipps, I became a fan in 1990 and thought the Steeler players had funny names

Back in the day, everyone was like “Jordan is better.” I never once disagreed... but... I always averred that Magic was more entertaining.

Merrill Hoge busted the Oilers up for 100 yards rushing!!

Added on 120 yds rushing and 60 yds receiving vs the Donkeys the following week.

He could have held out and been paid for 2 positions!!! :chuckle:

I am hoping the Browns can come through for us, and the Steelers take care of business.

If they pull this off, I will stay mature and classy about the whole thing with Ravens fans.

Then reality struck and we realized that this isn't 1989.

The 1989 Steelers were a rebuilding team coming off a 5-11 campaign. They played with a ton of heart that set the tone for the 90's.

The 2018 Steelers are a talented, but underachieving and fading squad that is in the midst of a collapse after years of falling short.
