It appears the dude hit the wall. That fumble was killer. He’s getting there, but not making the plays he used to make.
Have the Steelers run the wheels off of him?

I think he'll be fine. Remember they were playing at altitude, but that fumble was just horrible. We're driving for the lead, you just can't do that.
Plus the dude is KILLING me on my fantasy team.

He did have over 4 ypc today, but yeah multiple boneheaded fumbles on the year don't look good on him

Considering he fumbled away the game in Week 1 I don't believe it is a workload issue. Dude just has a ball security problem.

He's gotta figure it out. Rather him make his mistakes now instead of the playoffs.

He hasn’t been close to the back he was at the beginning of the season. His run style is different as well. He’s running scared...not like he was at the beginning of the season. Either he’s injured or he’s gassed...which wouldn’t be surprising.l.it happens to “rookie backs” at about this point in the season. If this continues, then Bell sits at home laughing...

guess how many fumbles leveon bell had after 11 games last year?
2, same as Conner.

We like to pick apart over analyse when we lose.
I for one wanted him to get the ball again on the goal line.

I agree, I wanted run on first and second, maybe qb sneak if they got inside 1. They've gone to the well too many times on the shovel pass up middle inside the 5 yard line. First down was a complete waste. Run a pick play or run ball.

I don't think the offensive line has helped him a lot the past couple of weeks either. It doesn't seem like they're opening up a lot holes for him. Of course, they did have to go against one of the best defenses last week.

I too agree. The kid is effectively a rookie and he is gonna learn better ball security in the open field from this. Maybe he goes all Tiki Barber high and tight carrying in the future.
I also thought he should have got the ball on the goal line on 1st down, with either a TE lead or Nix, but instead they throw a fade to JuJu that was a waste.

He should’ve run wild today. Broncos are the only team to have given up 200 yard rushing in back to back weeks within the same season. That 114 yard average that we saw in Weeks 5-9 should’ve been there today.

He still averaged 4.1 YPC, but only got 13 carries. Again, I think they abandoned the run game too quickly against a team that like you say, hasn't performed well vs the run.

I said it before that the Steelers lack of viable RB depth would be a killer. It isn't going to get easier on Conner from here on. Samuels isn't ready, and Ridley sucks.

Meh. That 4.1 was a result of one long run. The rest of his carries were pretty much garbage.

"Long runs don't count". then next week the talk is....."James Conner has way more runs over 20 yards than LeVeon Bell ever had". SMH.
I guess there are a certain segment of fans that just want their RB to run it 4.2 yards each time they carry the ball and their WR's to catch for approx. 8.8 yards. If there is long one, it doesn't count, but if there are short ones, the player is garbage and should be benched. Maybe some people are just happy being un-happy. :noidea:

I agree, he only had 13 carries the game before Denver and not many more the two games that.

Actually, James Conner only had 9 carries against JAX, the week before. Fichtner is abandoning the run game far too early and too often. All the talk of Mike Munchak, the Steelers O line, Conner being productive and they are not giving the run game a chance.
Look at it this way. The last 2 games Conner has 22 carries combined and Ben has 103 pass attempts combined with 5INT. Neither game was ever too far beyond 7-9 points that the run game needed to be abandoned.

I'm surprised we ran the ball so little against the #27 ranked rush D. One week after we call Randy Fitchner a great playcaller, he goes and outsmarts himself like Todd Haley, hope it doesn't become the norm.

I don't know what to make of it ... while it definitely feels like Conner has some real stink bombs mixed in with his really productive games, it is not Willie Parker level ... often I feel more like "why did they abandon the rush?" instead of "why did they continue to rush with this guy, it's clearly not working!"
One point of interest: Gilbert has been out for the past five games, so I wonder what kind of effect that's had. The first three of those games were kind of one-sided stomps anyway and Conner had good numbers. On the other hand, a couple of the really bad games were early in the season with Gilbert in there. Maybe nothing.
As for "running the wheels off of him," you've got to be kidding. He's had six games with 15 or less carries. That's more than half of them. One game with over 30 carries, an overtime game. And this is his first season of full-time action. If anything, he's got to be one of the most well-rested starting RBs in the league.

Conner had 4.1 ypc yesterday, again they didn't try and run the ball. I think the offense is better when they run more

I still don't get this idea. How can there be something wrong with a gameplan that, except for extraordinarily stupid mistakes by a couple of players and a pass just three feet to far on a trick play, can be credited with 34 points? (we scored seventeen, lost seven on Grimble's move, lost seven on Brown's throw out of bounds--there was no one between the receiver and the endzone, and then lost seven more on Ben's INT).
I truly think rushing the ball or lack of it had nothing to do with losing this game.

Running the ball more usually means turning the ball over less. Conner did fumble though, but just playing the law of averages here. Ben also doesn't tend to throw INTs when the running game is going.
In any case, it was a lot to do with poor execution in the red zone and some bone headed crap like grimbles fumble. That guy shouldn't be allowed to see the field ever again, I mean we have McDonald and James

What shouldn't happen is the Steelers stop going to him, they need to continue to use him the same way they have been, actually, I wish they would run him more. He should have had 20 carries versus the Broncos and probably would have had 85 plus yards.
