It’s said that a 3-4 defense cannot stop the run without a space-eating nose tackle. The Jaguars rushed for 179 yards and averaged 4.2 per carry, but there can be little argument that Javon Hargrave had an outstanding game in the Steelers’ 20-16 victory today at TIAA Bank Field.

Hargrave had four tackles, plus two of the Steelers’ six sacks, and during the Steelers’ frantic comeback in the fourth quarter he batted down a pass on a third-and-11 to get the defense off the ball and the ball back to the offense. This game proved something that many have been saying for some time. Hargrave needs to be part of the nickel package DE pass rushing rotation.

Rather than Alualu or LT Walton or something — Javon Hargrave needs pass rush snaps. Heyward and Tuitt each play like 6-10 snaps less per game. Stay fresh for the stretch drive.

Definitely took advantage of the Jags back up center and he’s also been doing very well in this three safety package they play and Dangerfield has been playing decent in that package as well.

Fun fact: Hargrave had the highest PFF grade of any D-lineman that played last Sunday (and the 3rd highest overall to Donald and Chris Jones, who both played in that 54-51 Monday night game)
