View Full Version : How many yards will Charlie Batch and the Steelers have on Sunday?

I think Batch is not able to have 100 passing yards against Tampa Bay.:smash::boink:

I hope that the defense will be strong on Sunday and that Mendenhall will be a big game...:pray::pray::pray::pray:

I'm gonna go with a wild guess and say that even though Batch was announced as Starter I think it may be a smokescreen and Lefty starts.

As I was watching the game again, I realized that Batch was actually moving the offense. Heck, he through a very nice TD pass, only to have it called back by a penalty on Hills. If he isn't injured in the first 3 plays, I think he will have a decent game. We'll probably be somewhere in the 100's for passing yards, 140 or 170. Rushing will probably be just over 100.

I agree - Botch will have under 100 yards passing on Sunday but I think Mendy & Co. will gain 110 - 130 on the Bucs. :tt02:

i am hoping charlie doesnt have to throw that much and rushard runs wild, but the bucs have been playing good D.

Batch was very competent last week. We just shot ourselves in the foot. With him coming in as the starter and having a QB behind him, the offense will be less limited. 200 yards is a realistic goal. Dixon threw for over 200 against Atlanta.

I would say its possible for batch to throw for over 100....as for the entire unit, I agree with Chidi29, 200 yards total is a realistic goal.

I think Batch will have 200 alone. The offense won't be as bad as it was last week. I don't think that's even possible.

Yeah that would be great, then maybe we can approach 300 if the running game is going.

If we reach 250 offensive yards that would be good with me.... well as long as we score points that is...

I agree, I'm getting that warm and fuzzy feeling about Chuck on this upcoming game. I believe he's going to play his heart out.

I hear ya. I'm glad that they were able to pull through. I had no idea how much shuffling they had to do last week until I read that article posted earlier with all the breakdowns.

I'm happy for Batch, but I was kind of hoping that Lefty would have a good revenge type of game against the Bucs. Sounds like they screwed him good last year. I can see motivation for Charlie, but I think I see the potential for a lot MORE motivation for Byron.

Im going to say finally the passing game opens up and Batch has around 135 passing yards and a TD, while Mendy breaks the 100 yards mark again and get's a TD himself, while the defense does the rest!

200 or so yards passing and 1 TD pass.

120 total rushing yards.

Seeing how their best safety just got suspended I think batch will throw well against them if the line gives him a little time. McCoy will be a factor there. On the other hand I think we should be able to move the ball on the ground and I agree the D needs to play lights out again.

I think Batch will have a pretty good game.I see a play action pass early in the game they will be stuffing the line of scrimage so I can see a deep ball early.

Ill give Batch 137 yards in the air and the running game will have a total of 150 yards

I think it may come down to the play calling.

We have some serious line issues but if we mix it up and keep the defense off guard and on their heels I think we can open up the passing game.

Throw some long bombs early...

Throw some long bombs early...

If Lefty were behind center, I'd say that was a good idea, but seriously Tom - Botch isn't a long bomb specialist. He's tops, though, at handing off the ball. :heh:

I think if we get the running game going early and pound the pigskin - then throw in a few passes here and there and our D contains Freeman as the Bucs don't really have a rushing attack - we'll be fine.

I don't think Tampa Bay's defense is all that. It's not like they've beaten any good teams.
I'm hoping our offense gets their act together this week; they were atrocious last week.

We as Steeler fans are pretty spoiled. our 19 points with no offense at all matches the total of both Ratbird games combined and they have an elite QB with a lot of weapons....../end sarcasm

I still don't get all the doubt on Batch. All the memories I have of this game are pretty good. I'm thinking 11 of 17 for 183 yrds 2 TDs and 1 INT which is more than enough to win with our defense.

1 immobile QB + 1 patched up O-line vs #3 pick in the draft, and many consider the best pass rusher in some time = a possible recipe for disaster. And Ronde Barber still has some game left. It could get interesting in TB.

Batch will probably be approach 150 passing yards. Mendenhall alone will get 80-100, with Redman getting about 20 himself.

So I say around 250-270 yards.

The offense should open up a step or two with Charlie back there... when he "does" play, he usually does a pretty good job from my years of watching him...

Sounds like a depressed browns fan. One that is disgruntled with the way his team has handled the beginning of the 2010 season.

But hey, I understand, we have our backup QBs in there, our staggered O-Line and we're still winning games while the browns are finding ways to lose them.

Don't worry, I'm still taking Batch with about 150-160 yards throwing, Mendenhall about 130 rushing.

I don't think he gets more than 100 passing yards, but it doesn't matter if at the end of the game our beloved team gets a big fat W :wink02:

IMHO BA will call another conservative game to avoid mistakes, and I'm fine with it

That being said I guess we'll have 90-100 passing and 140 rushing, 2 TD's on the ground and 2 Skippy's FG's

I give him a lot more :poop: than you do. :heh: Like another member posted - most likely BA will go conservative in this one and try to pound the pigskin with Mendy while tossing in pass play now and then.

Hey - I hope I'm wrong about Botch and he lights up the field and the scoreboard!

I hate to bust all you alls bubble, but do you guys realize Batch was all but perfect last week in his call to duty. His well thrown balls were mostly dropped by every reciever, including Heath Miller.Like the article says,in reality he should have finished 10 of 11 passes with around 119 yds.All the passes that he threw were very catchable balls that were simply dropped by every reciever. Yes even Wallace.Like preach said,he even threw a perfect touchdown pass that was called back on a penalty.http://http://network.yardbarker.com/nfl/article_external/charlie_batch_played_nearly_perfect_against_titans/3277055

Charlie Batch Played Nearly Perfect Against Titans6

It is amazing how much grief Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch is getting across Steeler Nation this week. I swear I think most people only listen to the game on radio or only watch the game the original airing. They then rely on the NFL gamebook to tell their story or base their argument on. Let's face it, the Steelers offense looked spotty at times on Sunday, but to put the blame on Batch is idiotic. What happened on Sunday offensively, falls mostly on the receivers more than anything. Heath Miller, Mike Wallace, Hines Ward and Antwaan Randle El all failed to execute on some key catches in the game Sunday, four of which came on 3rd downs.

The stat sheet has Batch going 5 of 11 passing for 25 yards and a measly 52.5 QB rating. As you will see in the animated gifs below, 5 of these passes could be argued as very catchable balls. Let us also not forget that Batch had a TD pass to Mike Wallace called back by a holding call on left tackle Jonathan Scott. Batch also was sacked twice on the day both times on 3rd down. We covered all 4 sacks from Sunday here and the play by play offensive line play here.

In reality, the stat line for Batch on Sunday should of read, 10 of 11 passing for 119 yards and 1 touchdown. That equates to a 153.2 QB rating on the day and does not factor in the called back TD to Wallace. A perfect QB rating is 158.3, so you can see what I mean by Batch played nearly perfect. So if indeed Batch is under center against Tampa Bay on Sunday, you should feel that the offense is in good hands. The hands you need to worry about are those of Miller, Wallace, Ward and El. They and the offensive line are to blame mostly for the poor offensive performance this past Sunday in Nashville, not Charlie.
