These stats tell me that our offense is getting on fire, and our defense is average. However, we are vastly improved against the run although it should be noted teams are abandoning the run against us, more than likely because teams are trying to keep up with the offense (our pass defense is midland to good, depending on the stat). I know, it doesn't seem that way, but when we look back at the scores, the Steelers have dropped thirty-plus points on four of seven teams, and twenty-plus points on six of seven teams.

The steelers were in the top 3 in red zone offense too before the game vs CLE.
One thing the steelers have to be better is the field position in offense and defense.
I mean, before the game against the browns, the steelers were last in field position in offense and in the bottom 10 in defense.

I’d be willing to bet that the Steelers’ offensive numbers for the 1st quarter of games rank 32nd... and rank 1st for the other three quarters.

Honestly, I'll take that as games aren't won in the first quarter. Granted, it isn't a good idea to play from behind, but this team doesn't seem able to hold a lead anyway! :chuckle:

Yes, but the hole is just too big when we are behind 14-0 or 21-0 against good teams like that often happen recently (against KC, Bal this year and Jax last year in the playoffs).

Here's a stat:
Since that loss in 2016 to the Crygirls, the Steelers are 24-5-1 in the regular season.
Bad news: Most of those games were high blood pressure inducing games and they laid a turd last year in the playoffs.
$6 million
The amount that Le'veon "Wally Pip" Bell walked away from so far this season. He's the Six-Million Dollar Man in reverse.

Where does the D rank in takeaways? Pressure rate? Blitz rate?
I would be willing to overlook a ton if they could get pressure with 4 and take the ball away on D.

Thanks! That combination is going to bite you in the ass against better offenses. So, you know, the playoffs. If you have to bring extra guys to get pressure and you don’t generate turnovers off of it, the Brady and Majomeses of the NFL are gonna identify the mismatch in coverage and just pick the D apart.

I would be interested to know how they define "blitz."
Is it simply the number of people rushing, e.g., 1-4 is no blitz and >5 is a blitz?
Is it when any non-lineman rushes? (In a 3-4 defense this would be a lot of the time)
Does it depend on who rushes? Like, if you have a safety rush and then Hayward or Watt drops into coverage, is that a "blitz" even if you're still only rushing four guys?
Basically that stat tells me nothing except that we sometimes have people other than linemen rushing, which should be almost every play regardless.

Excellent point. Hasn't stopped and considered that.

Weren’t we near the bottom in defense after 4 weeks? Now we’re average? Means the defense has been playing above average lately. If we can maintain that upward trend after playing the saints, chargers and patsies we’ll be in great shape.
Basically, Offense is is going to win regular season games but good D also is going to get us through the playoffs.

For the turnovers on defense, I think we'll have to live with that.
Four of his turnovers were in the second quarter against Tampa and the others turnovers were either deep in our territory and our offense was not a good field position despite the turnovers or it was in garbage time like the TD against the Falcons.
The steelers have the second worst field position of the NFL in offense, which is a problem.Fortunately the steelers have the second best red zone offense of the NFL, which very few people are talking about that at the moment.
