Charlie Batch will finally get his chance.

Mike Tomlin, through spokesman Dave Lockett, confirmed after practice today that Batch will start Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.

It will be Batch's first start since the season finale in Baltimore in 2007 and just his fifth since joining the Steelers in 2002.

"It feels good," said Batch, a Homestead native. "All along I wanted to throw my hat into the ring as one of the options (at quarterback) during these first four games. I never imagined it would turn out this way, but here we go."

I 'm assuming that Lefty is just not ready then, because I also assume if he was, he'd be starting.

I'm sure you are right on with your assumption.

Batch should've been starting from the beginning. The man gets it done.

As long as he's not confirming James Harrison at QB, I'm cool. :heh:

I prefer Randle El!

He has already made a touchdown pass in a super bowl!:behindsofa:

It sounds like the logic is this. "we have won two, we REALLY want/need to beat Balt. next game. Lefty will have to shine in that game...and be healthy. Give BL one more week to 100%. If we cannot beat the Bucs w/ Batch, then we have other areas of concern.
Hell, I`d rather lose to the Bucs than the Ravens!!!!

i dont know that might just work! would you want to try to tackle him? he could glare at some and knock'em down! BUT no long snapping for him!

I know we still probably want to play a bit conservative, but I'd like to see us open up the pass at least a little bit more. Hopefully Batch will find a rhythm. I know our D is awesome, but I'm not sure how many we can hope to win without getting any offense rolling.

We're boned. :heh:

I'd rather see Lefty rest one more week and be as close to 100% as possible for when we face the Ravens.

So if Batch is starting because Lefty isn't 100%, who's #2?

Egads - you got that right. :horror: Thank God I'll be in Dover for the NASCAR race so my arm and slipper won't be in overdrive.

I'll throw my support behind Botch, but I am not at all happy about the decision, though it was most likely Tomlin's only option. This basically tells me that Lefty isn't healthy enough to take the start. God help us all if BA calls a lateral play - I'll never forget Charlie's idea of a "lateral". Hopefully, BA bought Botch a pair of steel toed cleats to stop him from happy-feeting it all over the field.

Pray folks. Pray hard.

Hopefully Leftwich is ready, but Tomlin's letting them prep for Batch.

6/22, 70 yds passing, a FG off Skippy, a surprise flea flicker (see below) and a defensive TD when Harrison knocks Freeman into the next week on a sack and Woodley picks up the ball, leaps over a sprawled out Freeman (who also has to change his Fruit of the Looms after that hit) and takes it to the house. 17-6 Steelers. Charlie trips over his own happy feet and is replaced by El in the 3Q who completes a pass to Hines in the EZ for a TD.

There - fixed that for ya. :heh:

Probably not going to be a lot of passes over 5 yards.

I'd have to disagree with those of you who think it's because Leftwich isn't healthy. If that's the case, we'd have to add another QB to the roster before kickoff. You can't go into the game with one healthy QB and one that isn't fully recovered.

I don't understand how Leftwich got pushed to the bench. He was the starter all this time. I'd think that once he was healthy, he'd be the guy once again.

I don't have a problem with Batch, think he'll do fine, but I'd slightly prefer Leftwich.

Somebody needs to explain all of this hate for Batch. I've always thought of him as one of the better backups in the league and certainly capable of winning games.

I agree. I don't know where all of this mistrust comes from. I don't recall him losing a single game on us.

Actually he's a bit weak in the bones but I believe he is going to have a great game on Sunday.

Well, that's ironic then considering the three guys ahead of him are either hurt or suspended.
