View Full Version : What Trades Could Actually Happen?

I would love to get Peterson, but I just don't see it happening for a long list of reasons.

But more in the realm of possibility:

Offer the Raiders a mid-round pick or picks for Bruce Irvin to juice up the pass rush? Even Artie Burns can cover for 2 seconds....or maybe not...but still...

I thought about Chris Harris of the Broncos, but he does his best work in the slot, where one Mike Hilton is balling. So no?

Or maybe double-dip on the Raiders and put a package together around Irvin and Conley? Does anyone know if Conley is any good...?

While I don't see the Steelers making a trade, it is fun to think about!

I think they are serious about replacing Artie before the deadline. Wouldn't surprise to see some low level trade. I think they will give Artie one more chance but want a better option then they have now if he fails.

If they trade for a CB, it’s gonna be a Bryant McFadden/William Gay type talent. You’re not going to get an Ike Taylor talent and you’re definitely not getting a Rod Woodson level...

Yeah, they seem dead-set on adding a CB if anything, but we sure could use a pass rusher or even a linebacker who could cover. Doesn't Arizona also have one of each who are disgruntled or out of favor? Either of Denver's OLBs available?

Reddick with the Cardinals, Barrett with the Broncos, Conley with the Raiders, are all young defensive players with a ton of upside that should be had for relatively cheap. Comparing to the Eli Apple trade.

Wasn't Shaq Barrett also a young up-and-coming stud at one point? tbh I have no idea what happened to him or whether he's any good anymore, but if the price is right and he's not a washout, could be worth looking into.

The other one on AZ I was thinking of was Deone Buchanon. Seemed like the kind of speedy ILB who could cover, the type of player we could use alongside Williams or Bostic, then he got forced out of the rotation when they switched to a 4-3 alignment. But maybe there's more to the story there too, like he got forced out because he sucks. I don't really know enough about it to say.

Shaq was very good. Still surprised that we didn’t draft him in R5 or R6, considering he was Joey Porter’s prodigy at Colorado State.

As as far as why he’s on the bench: Miller & Chubb are kind of good.

They need established talent...not more potential upside. We’ve seen enough upside with Sutton, Burns, Dupree, Matakevich, Williams...the list goes on and on with “upside”.

Sutton was a 3rd, Williams was a 6th. They were not over drafted. I think they have played pretty well for where they were taken. The draft isn’t a complete science, lfor every Bud there is a Cam.Let’s be realistic the Steelers aren’t given up a first round draft pick to trade fore someone. 1967 was the last time they didn’t have a first.

Based upon what I've seen over the last decade or so I'd be shocked if a high level trade was made. That's just not the way Colbert works. Once in awhile we get lucky (Haden, Farrier) but more often than not it's just a "blue collar" kind of player. I'm getting anxious as it gets near the end of BR's career. I know it's definitley not the "Steeler Way", but I'd like to see them take advantage of whatever time he's got left. I'm so glad he's not fading like Manning.

All you hear is upside this upside that. They are at a point where they don’t need prospects. They need established talent and they don’t have to give up a first round pick to get some. But if they did for a Peterson type player, it would be worth it over drafting another Artie Burns. There’s a short opening as far as Ben and Brown go. That could drop off immediately and I’d rather take some proven talent now than some upside players that may or may not develop and take up the space waiting to develop instead of having a real player in there contributing.

They won’t make a blockbuster deal...you’re right...it’s just not their style.

I’m all for trying to get Peterson, I am just being realistic on our chances. All I know is Artie is a weakness in our defense, and just hoping he gets better isn’t going to work. I hope If a deal isn’t made, Sutton gets a longer look at the outside. Nothing against Artie, he just isn’t getting the job done.

I don't really see anything out there that interest me enough to just make a trade.

I'm really excited to see Morgan Burnett back, him being healthy could feel like the team made a trade acquisition.

Maybe add someone to replace Big Dan? sorta reaching. Highly unlikely a team is going to giveaway a starting CB without paying up but I'd call the Jets to see what Morris Claiborne would cost. He's an expiring contract.

Burns just needs to play Man period ..... his issues is he is L.O.S.T in zone , he has no idea what receiver to pick up and what receiver to drop coming in and out of his zone ...

just let him man up and forget about it ... live and die by the sword the results have to be better than what we have witnessed in zone

100%

They drafted him to play man. He’s very good in man. He sucks at zone. Sooo... Butler has him play zone.

Again Artie Burns sucks! His only attribute is he has speed and right probably better at playing man. He just don't have it and anyone waiting for the light to turn on wouldn't want to pay his electric bill!

Shane Ray has been rotting in Denver who I wanted at the draft even though he was stupid and smoke weed three days before. Steelers past on him probably because of that and drafted a no name Dupree. I would be all for acquiring Ray!

Shane Ray couldn’t beat out Shaq Barrett (R7 pick). Ray might have been better than Dupree (or not), but even if he was, it was probably not by much.

IF....Player were to be "redrafted" in 2019, should the Steelers consider Player with the first round pick? IF the answer is "yes", then what is wrong with trading the first round pick for Player? Plus at this point it is not potential based, it is performance based.

Even with this logic trading for Player is not a slam dunk. Players do fit some systems better than others.

Patrick Peterson would be trading a first round draft pick for 2 years of service on his current contract I believe. I would do that.

LBs not so much. Unless the LB for trade would warrant a first round pick in 2019 I would keep the draft pick. Based on performance there are no LBs worthy of that price, IMO.

How about straight up trade Bell for good CB? are there any potential takers who have an elite CB and need a RB?

Redskins with Josh Norman? Peterson, however, has been pretty solid so they may no longer see a need for a RB. It could be a Second Tier guy and a pick as long as they thdo no that guy will fit their scheme?
