Game shouldn't have been that close...

and the title of the thread should say "The" instead of "We." Some moderator help would be much appreciated in this matter.

Something has to change. If Tomlin is calling the defense now then he needs to fire Butler and replace him with someone that can make this work. They just look lost out there in coverage at times.

Had that been Brady or Brees last night we lose 45-30.

I'm glad to have the win, but that one was practically handed to us.

Basically, this defense needs to get very lucky with turnovers, or else it cannot stop anyone.

The reddest of red flags is that we've spent a fuck ton of money and draft picks upgrading on that side of the ball and gotten no better. The defense is all first and second-round picks, yet is a disorganized, non-functional mess.

You know what else used to be all first and second-round round picks but didn't work? The offensive line. Then we brought in a coach who knew what the hell he was doing and it suddenly was one of the best in the league.

When the talent is there, but the talent is running around stupidly failing to make plays, that points to a coaching problem. We've seen this before, and not long ago.

Butler will be fired at the end of the season, about a week after we win the super bowl.

The KC game was squarely on Butler, the TB game was not. The secondary was in position to make plays and mostly showed good technique. The scheme (essentially a Lebeau throwback) was adequate to win the game.

Not a dominant defensive performance by any means, but a huge improvement on Butler's part over the dumpster fire against KC. He cleaned up all the stuff he needed to. Except the silly penalties. Gotta get that fixed...
