Tomlin may be done with Berry's incompetence

Berry may have been saved in preseason by being the holder for Boz but with Boz misfiring that might not help him now

What happened to this guy? It wasn't long ago everyone was thrilled with the upgrade over all the garbage-can punters we'd had in the past, and then all of a sudden this preseason everyone hated him, and in the regular season he sure looks like he sucks.

Did he get hooked on meth or something?

You answered your own question sort of ....

we got excited for him because he was a step above the garbage can kickers we had , we where so used to horrible that mostly horrible seemed like an upgrade ...

turns out Mostly horrible is still plenty horrible ...

maybe we can upgrade again and get to Pretty bad or maybe just bad ...

average would be great ......

This seems so easy to me. Just score and won't need to use the punter.

Berry ! Oh Berry ! You're punting is so scary . Seriously though i've not been happy about the punting game for some time. I thought he was out-punted in the pre-season.

last thing we need on a struggling team is a kicker with no confidence

Could very well be Tomlin calling the defense again.

It's a problem that can indeed be fixed. Giving opponents good field position doesn't help when the defense is struggling. They need to flip the field.

Tomlin confirmed today he does not call the defense.

How do you always manage to break things down to their simplest form and solve problems so easily? I wish I thought of it.

Yep, punting is the major problem with the team! They should work-out a few DC while their at it. I seem to remember another punter getting axed last time something went down the drain, like a few years back?

Yeah, the 99 Rams went without a punter for a bit. Just scored points instead.

Berry will stay, and he will stay for at least the remainder of this season, probably into 2019 as well. Tomlin likes to keep obviously crappy players on the field for far too long. Same guy who started Antwon Blake for a full year and kept the utterly useless Cam Thomas on his roster for 2 full seasons. It's not just the players either, look at the many clearly underperforming coaches he has kept

Just the easiest one to fix.

It won't change anything. The defense will still suck. The team will remain undisciplined. Burns and Dupree will remain starters.

Should have typed "scroll back" to post #17, comparing Berry's stats to Wile's, Berry's competition in camp.

As previously suggested, may have kept the wrong guy. :noidea:

If 2/3 of your team is broke you don’t just fix 1/3 of it. The reality is that special teams stands the best chance for improvement any time soon.

Ok. Let's say the ST is godlike. The Steelers won't be any better. ST isn't going to fix the problem.

The HC's job is to manage the whole operation. He can't say, "my defense sucks so I'm not going to worry about special teams." That's ridiculous to think that. But as long as we're just posting about it on the interwebz I guess we can think and post anything we want.

Then he needs to start managing. Standing around saying obviously hasn't worked.

Interesting take. Maybe this is why Berry keeps his job?

He doesn't really do well at uncorking long punts, but his placement is excellent. He drops them in pretty nice.

I guess as long as the offense keeps stalling out just outside the red zone, Berry is the punter for this team?

I kid...I kid...

SteelMember

He's been doing better. I think the earlier issues were a couple shanks, not a pinning .vs touchback problem.
I don't think there's more than a couple guys out there that you could say "flip the field" when your offense goes 3 and out, and you're punting from your own 25 yard line.
You'd be lucky the average the opponents 40 most times...

I’ve noticed this, especially this season. He’s not a distance guy but he can place them pretty well. That one he plunked in on Sunday at the 2 or whatever it was was impressive.
