JAMES CONNER
Running Back

CLEVELAND – Alas, the fairy tale didn’t have a happy ending.

James Conner started at running back for the Steelers in their 2018 regular season opener here, and it was quite the performance. Conner rushed for 135 yards on 31 carries and two touchdowns, and he also caught five passes for 57 more yards to finish with 36 touches for 192 yards from scrimmage. Conner also did a nice job in pass protection, but he also lost a fumble late in the fourth quarter that jump-started a Browns comeback in a game that ended in a 21-21 tie...........

From what I saw, he ran hard and blocked well, good for him I am glad he played well makes me feel good that Bell is holding out, He can sit the bench when he ever shows up

James Conner Wow looks like the nailed the first three picks and that there alone is a good draft.

Plus... Josh Dobbs.

And, while he’s had a tough 2018 thus far, I’m a strong supporter of the Cam Sutton pick.

TJ Watt was really the only other option this week.

I looked at those two plays where Sutton gets criticized for yesterday and they aren’t terrible. The first to Higgins he got beat cold off the bench. The second, someone would have to explain to me how he could’ve had better coverage without drawing a penalty. Everytime another team does something it isn’t necessarily a breakdown by the Steelers. I think Sutton was at worst even on the day so to speak.

Conner played well but I'd like to see Ridley for a few series here and there. 30+ carries per game makes me nervous tbh especially for a first year starter

I agree. That TD was impossible to defend, much like how Larry Fitzgerald caught a TD (in XLIII) with Ike Taylor in perfect position. In other words, Gordon has that level of uncanny talent.

(I didn’t watch the preseason, but reports are/were that Sutton had struggled. That said, I still aver that by year three, we will be referring to him as a steal.)

I honestly think Watt should have been MVP though. As well as Conner played, Watt dominated. 4 sacks and a blocked FG, that effort probably avoided a loss.

It’s the “Bell” factor.

Conner had all of the pressure on him, and he produced. If he had had a subpar game, the media would have jumped all over the Steelers. Conner’s stellar game made a bunch of writers eat crow. Hence... Conner gets the game ball.

Now... any other situation, and I agree: it’s Watt.
