Cleveland 19 has contacted the Browns front office and they are aware of the situation.

"Along with NFL headquarters, we closely monitor weather patterns each week to ensure game conditions are safe for the team and fans. Any decision impacting the game’s start or continuation is ultimately made by the league office. The game is on schedule for 1 p.m.," according to a team spokesman.

Looking into NFL policy it does appear canceling the game could be a possibility.

Rule 17 Emergencies, Unfair Acts:
Article 4 The NFL affirms the position that in most circumstances all regular-season and postseason games should be played to their conclusion. If, in the opinion of appropriate League authorities, it is impossible to begin or continue a game due to an emergency, or a game is deemed to be imminently threatened by any such emergency (e.g., severely inclement weather, lightning, flooding, power failure)

The question that will have to be looked at by the league is whether or not five to seven inches of rain is considered "severely inclement weather."

this could be a replay of the 3-0 game we played against (I think Miami) some years back and the FG came inside the final 2 minutes. That's the game where the dolphins kicked the ball and it landed nose 1st and stuck in the ground.

Ben's first start in 2004 was in similar weather.

They moved it to an 8:30 start time.

Where did you see that, can't seem to find it anywhere?

Miami (0-3 for the first time since 1969) and the Steelers (2-1) played on a baseball infield and produced a baseball score for much of a game that was moved from 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. because of the hurricane which hit just above West Palm Beach Saturday night

I saw this article about the weather forecast for the game:

http://m.cleveland19.com/story/39047161/weather-expected-to-be-terrible-for-browns-game-but-what-would-it-take-to-cancel-it (http://m.cleveland19.com/story/39047161/weather-expected-to-be-terrible-for-browns-game-but-what-would-it-take-to-cancel-it)

"The latest data I’m seeing this morning is calling for widespread five plus inches of rain, with locally seven plus inches," according to Tanchak. "The heavy rain will start late Saturday night. So that means all day Sunday and Sunday night we are looking at continuous heavy rain. Winds will be gusting up to 40 mph at times."

As if the forecast wasn't daunting enough, what Tanchal sees is a first for even him.

"I have not seen a worse weather forecast for a Browns game in the almost 16 years I have been here and that includes snow events. I have no idea how they will be able to play football or how people will be able to sit in that stadium and watch a game," Tanchak said.

I have been wondering this for years.

I have to change browsers to read Douchette or any Post Gazette. I hate IE but I have to use it for Gazette links.

I don't live in Cleveland (Thank God!), but where I live in western PA, we have flood watches in effect until Monday @ 8:00 PM Eastern.

Stay safe

Based on the downpour I am watching as Pitt and Penn State tear up the turf at Heinz it looks nasty

Thanks, Dan. Yeah, it's been raining hard all day. I'm glad I've completed all my outdoor errands for the weekend.

If I recall correctly, part of the problem with the Dolphins stuck-football game was that the field had been trashed (AGAIN) by the high school playoffs, and there wasn't enough time to rip out the ruined turf and re-sod it. So they laid new turf over top of the old turf, and it was essentially floating on a layer of water that built up underneath it.

I mean, 5 to 7 inches of rain is no joke, but I don't think the stuck-football conditions can be repeated except under very special circumstances.

Can’t you just delete your Gazette cookies every once in a while? Works for me.

It’s raining hard in Baltimore, so the Bills-Ravens game wil be a sloppy affair, but I think the Steelers game in Cleveland is going to be a real mess. Winds up to 40? Sounds like the ground game will be a huge factor.

But...that’s football. Especially AFCN football. Keep your domes. We don’t need ‘em!

I use an ad blocker on chrome. Even if I turn it off, the gazette still shows the OMG you're using an ad blocker screen.

I've deleted cookies and cache and it still pops up. I don't sweat it. Gazette isn't my go to website anymore.

Low 60s, rain and 15-20 mph wind during the game. As opposed to the earlier predictions of a biblical deluge rain near 1/2 inch

I can delete P-G cookies on Firefox after P-G website says I have reached article limit to keep reading on PC

I read more on iPhone than PC - just delete P-G app and then reinstall after article limit reached to keep reading. Do not know if that also works for Android phones
