I would say after listening to Mike Tomlin today that Byron Leftwich will start at quarterback, even though he said Batch is in the "pole position.'' Max Starks and Casey Hampton will return and Doug Legursky will start at right guard. Trai Essex was spotted Tuesday, his foot (ankle) in a boot and walking on crutches. That's how we saw Starks after his injury in the season opener.
Legursky is not a big dropoff at guard and having Starks back is an improvement so the line, overall, should be more capable this week. Now, they'll have to feed the old guy at right tackle enough water so he does not get dehydrated again in the heat in Tampa Sunday.......................

Just seen on the ticker that Dixon is having surgery tomorrow, out indefinitely.

My guess is that Batch gets the start. :noidea:

"Guess here is Leftwich starts".
^ How does one even begin to diagram that sentence?

Dixon hurt the same knee he hurt in college. Looks like we need to draft another QB in addition to OL.

Batch didnt play bad in the second half Sunday but having Leftwich who will throw the ball down the field would be a plus. And I could see Legursky replacing Essex at RG with a good game Sunday.

Well the good news is that Starks is back a much needed improvement over Hills, and I don't mind seeing Legurskey get some playing time as well. I hope Lefty get's the start on Sunday, but don't mind Batch he will get the job done if the line blocks.

Don't need to draft a QB since Ben should be here and our franchise for many years and there are plenty of cheap, capable career backups in free agency worthy of carrying a clipboard. IMO

I've been wondering the same thing. Here is what I came up with about 20 minutes ago...

Guess (Verb infinitive used as an anarthrous, nominative noun) here (dative noun, probably should have the word "from" before it) is (verb) Leftwich (Accusative noun) starts (present progressive).

Thus, Guess here is the subject and is leftwich starts is the predicate.

However, it is horrid English. "The guess here, is Leftwich starts next week" is the full sentence.

Maybe they should start teaching English and Journalism at Journalism schools, instead of how to change the world.

It's blog, not an actual news story.

I have to wonder if Leg. is beginning a long career at that position next week. He has always impressed me. Heck, I'd love to see him do it, and then move Essex over to backup the tackles, who obviously need it. I think he could replace one or both of our current ones. Preferably, Starks, with Colon coming back off injury next year (and probably back to us, what with a much lower worth in FA with the injury).

IMO, our long term backup is coming off a knee injury right now. There is no reason why Lefty can't fulfill the role Batch had for the next 5-7 years. At that point, we will need to draft a 1st round QB, and train him for a couple years until Ben's retirement (unless Ben decides to be the next Brett Favre).

Thanks, Preach. That was driving me nuts. So the translation would be "My guess is that Leftwich is this week's starter".
I can handle that.

I think that may be the dynamic equivalent. The formal equivalent from "blogspeak" to English would be, "The guess here (by the author) is leftwich starts (the game).

Who knew my training in biblical languages and translating texts would come in handy on a Steelers forum?

:chuckle:

I hope Leftwich is ready to come back this week. I don't think that Batch can handle a full game with out getting busted up.
