When the team still was living at Saint Vincent College, defensive coordinator Keith Butler identified five players he said had to come up big for his unit to be what it will have to be to be a part of a championship run this season by the Steelers. One of the players identified by Butler was Stephon Tuitt, and in what’s perceived to be the most important preseason game, Tuitt turned in his best performance of the summer.

In the first half of the Steelers’ 16-6 victory over the Tennessee Titans today at Heinz Field, Tuitt had two tackles, a sack, two hits on the quarterback and one tackle for loss. He was a disruptive presence throughout a first half in which the defense allowed only 24 yards rushing and four first downs.............

He was a monster, did a nasty spin move on Taylor Lewan.

I expect a big year this year after not being healthy last season.

Tuitt was very good last year too. Stephon Tuitt on the whole is a very good player.

The guy's achilles heel is staying healthy. He's was nowhere near as good when he came back last year, and it affected the Defense as a whole.

He had good moments but he looked like he was going to challenge Heyward as the best player on this defense last year. He was never truly 100% after injuring his bicep week 1.

Tuitt never really missed time with injures, he gets beat up but that's how it goes playing on the d-line. Still just 25 years old.

I’m all for letting Tuitt and Heyward compete for best D-lineman. Maybe we should suggest it to them.

Tuitt was having a so-so TC with nothing impressive to report. Against the Titans Tomlin let loose the dogs of war. Tuitt excelled. Tuitt dominated. Glad to have him back. Tuitt and Heyward are going to wreak havoc this season. I just hope the LBs can back them up.

I think that we saw what Tomlin and Butler expect to do with the defense against the Titans. Prior to that, I think every snap was "evaluation" mode. During the Titans game they turned on "Get things done" mode.

I think that is accurate.
