David Carr thinks the Steelers' stars are carrying Ben Roethlisberger

His list of the top-10 signal-callers in the NFL omits the Steelers QB. Fair or not?

ADAM BITTNER

Is Ben Roethlisberger over the hill?

The Steelers’ quarterback has come down on both sides of that question over the past year, but NFL.com’s David Carr seems pretty confident that the 36-year-old’s teammates are carrying him at this point in his career.

The former NFL signal-caller — best known as the Houston Texans’ first-ever draft pick back in 2002 — produced his list of the league’s top 10 quarterbacks over the weekend, and Roethlisberger surprisingly wasn’t on it despite his pair of Super Bowl wins. The reason?

David Carr is a washed up former 1st Round bust that obviously has zero idea what he's talking about. Yes Ben has a lot of talent around him, but when Jones comes in to take over for Ben whether it's due to injury, or they're sitting the starters there is a noticeable drop off at the QB position. Ben elevates the guys around him. Just like Peyton Manning, Favre, Brees, Brady, or any other great QB does.

I'm sorry I clicked on it.

That's the kind of stuff that washed-up failures say to try to secure a long future of collecting checks for giving hot takes. That's a ridiculous statement from a guy that used to play the position and knows better.

The players voted Roethlisberger the #18 player in the entire league, and he still may be underrated.

Not a Top 10 quarterback...……..:jerkit:

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:

Steelers, Cowboys, & Taperiots = easy ratings

Expect someone on NFL Network to rip Dak Prescott next... followed tomorrow by a piece asking, “Is Tom Brady too old?”

It's not often a quarterback is lucky enough to have one player drop 3 touchdown passes and a 2-point conversion in one playoff game.

Is Carr trying to get ratings or become a talking head? If he is the first thing he should consider is thinking of something intelligent to say before opening his mouth.

Not a job requirement for Carr at NFL Network, where one of his co-workers is Michael Irvin

That is exactly why Stephen A Smith laughed off the comments this morning and I agree. Former #1 overall pick and bust is commenting like this on a future HOF QB with 2 Super Bowl wins??

these analysts remind me of weathermen. You tune in thinking they know what they are talking about, maybe because they believe it but there is zero accountability. Jimmy G is anointed 10 spot after 6 or 7 starts in the league. He may be great some day but right now come on. Carson Wentz off list, shit go ahead and put Sam Darnold on there. Im running out of channels to watch, you cant really take the guy seriously from here on out after that list.

Most of these analysts are showing personal bias, or are just saying things to stir everyone up and attract attention to themselves.

For years, all the quarterbacks who couldn't move in the pocket would kill Ben for "not playing on schedule". What that really meant is that all the guys that couldn't do what Ben was capable of would try to knock him down to make themselves look better and smarter. Now that he plays more from the pocket, he's a product of the talent around him......and he's still winning.

It has always amazed me that so many people hate Ben and love to trash him, but fall all over themselves drooling when talking about guys like Ray Lewis.

I know it's what these guys get paid to do, but much of what they say is less informed and more biased than what we say here.

Exactly! All you have to do to judge these guys is listen to the players that have to defend him. Not one of them say that he is a player being carried by the talent around him. Hell, Terrell Suggs and Ray Lewis always talk about how good he is and how tough of a competitor he is. When your adversaries sing praises about you, you're doing just fine.

When I first caught wind of this I was like David Carr really? Draft bust and, not only that ranking his brother to #4 in his current rankings SHOCKER! LOL I would just like to mention like at the games without Ben? It was painful to watch and, I know Mark Madden made the comment AB goes into witness protection program when Ben does not play!!! Ben is still of the best QB's in the game end of story.

Jerry Rice carried Joe Montana too........

and John Taylor, and Brent Jones, and Roger Craig, and a top tier OL. 49ers team in the Montana era was ridiculously stacked as well, but for some reason since it's Old Joe he gets all the credit.

Joe did have the best WR of all-time, and Craig in his prime was pretty much a carbon copy of Bell (bigger rb who was the best pass protecting RB and receiving back in the league). Jones was a pro bowl / all-pro tight end, and Taylor was as good a #2 wr you can get.

One could realistically argue that the late 80's 49ers offense was more stacked than the current Steelers team, Ben doesn't have an all-pro tight end. Ben definitely deserves credit, not only as a top 10 (I believe he's top 5 tbh still) QB, but an all-time great.

Also have to factor in that Ben's having to bring along WRs every year outside of AB. Since 2011, he's had the same pair of starting WRs in back-to-back years exactly one time.

This is also coming from a guy that got destroyed playing behind hideous offensive lines, because he had no chance back there because he wasn't a great quarterback...…...who then watched Ben play the game and carry offenses playing behind hideous offensive lines for much of his career and was able to lead his team to multiple rings...……….and he claims Ben's weapons are carrying him.
