Report: Pittsburgh Steelers sign OT Bryce Harris
By SAM QUINN
The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered a critical loss on the offensive line last week during OTAs when tackle Jerald Hawkins tore his quadricep, potentially ending his season and leaving the team without its expected swing tackle. Hawkins was expected to fill in for Chris Hubbard, who signed with the Cleveland Browns this offseason after a very strong year filling in for multiple Steelers on the line last season. The Steelers let him walk partially because they expected Hawkins to be ready to fill in, but now that's he gone, they had to add another body to the now thin group up front.
They've done just that According to Eric Edholm of Pro Football Weekly, as he reports that they have signed offensive tackle Bryce Harris. Harris is a journeyman who has played for quite a few teams. His career started with the Atlanta Falcons, but he went on to play for the New Orleans Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers between 2012 and 2017. His most significant stint by far was with the Saints, though, where he spent three years from 2012-2014 and started four games in total. Harris is a veteran tackle with real NFL experience, and that will come in handy for a Steelers team that has mostly young players behind the star-studded starting offensive line.
The question that this signing raises, though, is how confident the team is in Chukwuma Okorafor's ability to play right away.
