View Full Version : Three 1,000 Yard Receivers?

Some people think Washington will be a better first year receiver than JuJu who had 917 yards in 2017.
Soooooo, what do you think the chances are that we have three 1,000 yard receivers in 2018?

Way too many mouths to feed. Samuels will get on the field and be a legitimate receiving back. Bell already has low end #2/high end #3 receiving production already.
Arent the 2008 cardinals the only ones to accomplish this? I believe between Fitzgerald, Boldin, and Breaston, they really didnt have anyone else to throw to. Scrub tight ends and/or blockers like Leonard Pope, a washed up Edgerrin James.
I feel like this is one of those stat lines that are only situationally impressive. Because a lot of offensive cores throughout history could have honestly done it, if not for so many depth players

Bell is going to get a lot of work as a receiver so the odds that there are 3 1,000 receivers are slim

A lot of things in Ben's favor this year?
Possibly our best receiving corps ever?

Ben calling more of the plays?

We may have 5 receivers (3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB) over 50 receptions each, depending on Vance's health.
If you add Outlaw and MickeyD's receptions together they had over 50 combined receptions last year.

Yeah this is a more likely scenario. Ben might spread the ball around better than he ever has this season

What a great problem to have, TOO many options.
However, if Washington gets just 3 catches per game and gets his same YPC as college, that puts him right at 1,000 yards.
And with AB and JuJu garnering a lot of coverage....
Question: Based on JuJu's progress in his first season, could he become good enough to be a number one receiver on any/many other teams?

Wouldn’t be Ben if this board had anything to say about it...lol. He’s public enemy number one.

Im just gonna predict it again even though i looked dumb predicting it last season. Ben will finally be a popular front runner for MVP this season. Theres just no way it doesnt happen this time. Even if theres injuries (as long as they arent Ben, AB, or Bell for extended periods of time), Ben really has no excuses other than his age.

It's doubtful, but you never know.
There are so many weapons that you would think that the receptions will be spread throughout the roster.
I don't worry about stuff like that anyway. It's like the RB position with the Saints last year. Ingram and Kamara didn't lead the league in rushing, but combined they had over 1800 yards.
The best case scenario is that AB does what he does, and everyone else has a boatload of receptions and the scoreboard rings up like a pinball machine.

I don't think it happens, mainly because there's not enough touches to go around between AB/Juju and Bell. It could happen if Washington lives up to his college billing and hits a lot of long home runs though.

I went with 0% because of the targets to be spread around. A healthy McDonald is going to command a lot of touches, AB is always going to get his, and then you have the spread between JuJu, the other receivers, and Bell. Maybe Samuels too if he pans out.

AB is going to take 2,000 so asking for two additional to get 1,000+ is a bit much when it has to be spread between JuJu, Bell, Washington and the TEs. I think JuJu gets 1,000 and Washington goes for 650-700.

This is so true. The thing to look at is not the stats and not if he is as fast or as big as Bryant, but some key factors that will make James Washington a productive weapon are:
1. Washington is a deep threat and has football speed, not stopwatch speed.
2. Washington grew up on a farm and has a strong work ethic. He is gonna come in and work as hard as any WR in the room.
3. Washington has great hands and fights for footballs thrown his way, there wont be much giving up on a route like #10 has in the past.
4. A legit deep threat that will be on the field is either going to have single coverage because they bracket AB, or going to draw a safety, so either or both AB and JuJu gets single coverage.
His college QB said that Washington is a quiet guy that is all about Family, Faith and Football. Essentially this kid is a deep threat that will challenge for every football thrown his way, work hard and not be complaining about touches or getting suspended. The best Steeler draft pick IMO.

Yeah but does he jump for the ball even if he's not supposed to be paid to do so? :chuckle:

Great post.
I really think if Ben & Washington get on the same page this season; with Bell, AB and Juju having another year of experience, this could be our most potent offense ever.
Exciting times.

Not a chance. I think with Bryant we might have had a shot, at least if Bryant had played every game. Not because Bryant is that great, but he could've gotten 1000 yards by just catching numerous deep balls. Not much more than 1000 tho.

Agreed.
and Washington's ypc is off the charts, just like Bryant's...
20ypc x 50 catches = 1,000

the #3 receiver is essentially as much of a starter as the nickle backer so thats not a legit excuse to me to say wont happen ...
I am doubtful of it just because of the numbers game , lot of mouths and just 1 football
AB will get his .....
JuJu will get his .....
but then you have
Washington , Bell , Jones , McDonald ,and Mr Everything all vying for targets
I figure Washington and Bell rake in around 700 each
Jones and McDonald combine for another 700 to 800
that alone puts Ben over 4k before Mr Everything sees a ball come his way ( and I think he will get some chances ) as will whomever the #4 wideout is will see some balls too
only so many balls / targets and a lot of hungry mouths

Just throwing out numbers.
AB: 1500+
JuJu: 900+
Vance: 600+ (I believe Vance is going to have a great year. Think Delanie Walker once he left the 49ers)
Bell: 600+
Washington: 600+
That alone is 4,200 receiving yards combined.
Washington could probably easily get over 700 yards receiving if his deep threat ability translates. Has to be Mike Wallace esque, whom had 756 yards on just 39 receptions.

I think some of you are underestimating Washington's abilities. He is a far more complete receiver than Bryant. I don't see him as being another Bryant. I see him as a guy that they will be willing to throw short and let him break tackles and make big plays that way as well. He has the route running skills, the hands, and the ability to catch the ball in traffic that Bryant always struggled with. The deep ball will always be part of his game, but this kid can do much more than that.
I'm not saying he's going to have 1000 yards receiving, but it could happen. What I'm saying is that he doesn't have to rely strictly on the long ball like Bryant. He has the skills to eventually be a complete receiver once he learns an NFL route tree.
