Kinda sad. But predictable. Hilton plays the slot. Sutton needs to get on the field. No room on the roster.

Hope he resurfaces somewhere!

He should just retire. I see him going to New York with the Giants (maybe Jets) or maybe the Colts...no reason...just a gut feeling.

He wants to play and he should do so as long as a team will have him. Good luck Mr. Gay. Always a Steeler!!!

I always liked the guy, but things just weren't in the cards for this year. He can probably fill a role for someone, somewhere.

Just don't go to the Patriots.

Or actually, go ahead. I am trying to think of a scenario in which he would be on the field for a trick play, and the box score would read "Gay-Brady pass complete left for 14 yards."

The Gay-Meter is gone forever.

Another guy like Timmons. You just hate to say goodbye to players like him. But it's time.

The man is awesome. I know his time was up. Left and came back....and played well. Met him personally at the James Farrior Foundation” golf tournament. Let me wear his SB ring while I hit a tee shot (for good luck......summer after the win over the Cards ). He and Ike Taylor drove around all day having fun with the players. He stayed til the end and partied with everyone. Loved talking to the man. I WILL miss him. High football IQ. Hopefully after he is done playing he might coach, or evaluate talent.

He put some real solid time in with this team. Big Play Gay made a ton of huge plays over the years. A real pro.

He'll be missed.

Here is something I was thinking about tonight. Gay joins a long list of Steelers who got phased out. Most move on quietly and with seeming acceptance. Gay, Foote, Timmons, etc. Then a few move on loudly and with anger (Harrison is the most recent example).

Makes me wonder, is the issue the Steelers coaching staff and how they are putting expectations to these guys about role and playing time OR is it the player?

Again, not trying to blast anyone, but wonder what the difference is?

Gay was the Steelers best CB after Townsend and Taylor. I am referring within the last 10 years or so.

it's hard to say, but its pretty rare that you just see any of these older Steelers ever just retire. They all seem like they want to keep playing, even when it's becoming obvious that their skills sets are diminishing....Most of these guys were with the team a long time too. It's hard to figure out what's going on. Ward played long enough to get 1000 receptions (the last couple were painful to watch them force) and he was obviously done but he contemplated going to the Ravens to play before he decided to retire. He's just one example...there are more like it.

Good luck to him. He had some good years.

Now, where's the rest of the releases Bouchette promised last week!?!?
Looking at you Mitchell...
