View Full Version : Ben Roethlisberger wants to play at least 3 more seasons

Ben Roethlisberger said publicly on Sunday he will return to play in the 2018 season. He has told teammates he wants to play at least another three.

The question now becomes, who will be the Steelers’ offensive coordinator in 2018 and beyond?

Todd Haley just finished the final year of his contract, and it is not common for a Steelers coordinator to return under those circumstances. They usually sign extensions before they enter that final year, unless there’s a reason not to. The last one who ended his contract without an extension was ushered into “retirement” so they could hire Haley.

It appears the same might happen to Haley that Bruce Arians experienced after the 2011 season, although no one would call this one a retirement......

Good, we don't need a QB until 2019-2020, so lets focus on a TE :chuckle:

1. Maybe Ben was told that Haley isn't coming back???

2. Ben was comforting AB and told him "We'll get there"

3. Ben was healthy this year and sounds motivated.

4. Drama queen. :chuckle:

We need impact D players much more than a TE.

If this does happen and the Steelers find a new OC, who do we want? Let's start making a list on here of OC candidates.

This is exactly what I was hoping for.

Ben is really enjoying playing behind a great offensive line and surrounded by an insane level of individual talent.

If he plays 3 more years he can be right up there with the top 5 QB's in nfl history in several categories....and I am sure he wants another Lombardi or 2. :)

Thats pretty specific. If Ben keeps it up for 3 seasons, he's poised to be top 5 or borderline top 5 in every passing category. Not to mention 3 game winning drives away from tying John Elway (4th) for game winning drives, and infamously the most sacked QB of all time

Haley must be good as gone.

I want both coordinators gone before the week is out.

The first interview question I ask any offensive coordinator is, "Do you have a QB sneak play?"

Whoever they get to replace Haley (assuming he is gone), I hope doesnt change up the offense too much. Less WR screens (or learn how to execute them) and add a QB sneak and get rid of the 3-1 long bomb play and I will be happy.

Ben declined to confirm the three more years rumor this morning - since three years would require a contract extension no surprise he is not committing until $$$ would be worked out

Ben Roethlisberger reiterated he will come back for a 15th season as the Steelers' starting quarterback in 2018, but he wouldn't commit to anything further down the road than that.

“I am just playing them one year at a time, one game at a time, one season at a time,” Roethlisberger said during the final of his weekly KDKA-FM radio segments this season. “I'm excited to come back next year.”

Best news of the offseason already. Only thing that may top this is Shazier making a full recovery.

Not every team can find quality like George Kittle in the 5th round. :bolt:

Good move by Ben. This is his way of telling the team not to waste a premium pick on a qb. Draft players that can help get this team over the top in the next few years.

Hadn't thought about it that way! Great point.
