Terry Bradshaw

Is it possible that Terry Bradshaw's repeated attacks on Ben Roethlisberger are rooted in jealousy and the likelihood that Roethlisberger will be remembered one day as the greatest quarterback in Steelers history?
I say yes.
The only other plausible explanation is that Bradshaw simply doesn't like Roethlisberger. That might go back to before Roethlisberger's motorcycle accident in June, 2006. "Ride it when you retire. Those things are dangerous," Bradshaw had warned him a year earlier. Roethlisberger basically told Bradshaw to kiss off and mind his own business.....................

I have thought this all along and it has brought Terry down a little in my books. I can only hope that some day Terry sees it for this and can make a public/private statement to Ben and get the whole thing behind us. I can understand that Terry may have a dislike for Ben but have always contended that Terry needs to be a bigger man and keep it out of the press. Say those things in private instead of trying to dividing Steeler Nation.

He's just jealous that he was booed repeatedly and Ben wasn't. He was also jealous that in their first 2 years, Ben went 13-0 and won the superbowl while Bradshaw was benched, booed, and chastised

Not only is he "poring salt" on Ben, but on reflection didn't this knuckle-head start the "Steelers took steroids" thing a few years ago ? Yea. I think he did...

Good read, because it is pretty obvious still watching Bradshaw rip Ben even after all this time!

I still love Bradshaw, but this is something he really needs to keep private if he truly cares about Steelers fans. IMHO, Bradshaw will ALWAYS be the best big game quarterback not only in Steelers history, but in NFL history. Ben lost the chance to unseat TB in that category with his performance in SB XL.

Yeah I think he would be a little more understanding if he was making hundreds of millions with BR and not just some announcer offering up his two cents.

I don't know. 4 SB winning QB vs. 2 SB winning QB.

Not sure what he has to be jealous of. Furthermore, TB is no longer a "steeler". He now has a career associated with the NFL that far exceeds that of his Steeler days in fame and yes, in fortune as well. Yes, it was built on those days, but they are far, far behind him. Sounds to me like someone who tried to take a young QB under his wing-and was rebuffed, only to sit aside and watch that same QB make all the mistakes TB was worried about him making-mainly the same ones TB made, just to a greater degree.

I really do not get this "bunker mentality" when it comes to Ben.

Yeah, I am always baffled about how people can forget Ben's 3 game performance before the SB. I also think that SB XL needs to be seen on a greater picture for Ben. No, he didn't throw well. However, he made some BIG decisions at KEY moments that won the game for the Steelers. Scrambling left, he pulled up short of the LOS and put the ball deep, setting up a TD. Most QB's at that stage of career and situation would have simply ran for the first down. Secondly, Ben threw a BIG block on that trick play of ARE, freeing up ARE for his SB pass. Third, Ben took the ball on a nekid bootleg around the end for a first down late in the game to seal the game. That play was intended for Jerome Bettis. Everyone, even Cowher was surprised. He is overheard on the sidelines saying, "Ben took it!" Fourth, the same play, earlier in the game, resulted in 7 points for the Steelers.

So in short, Ben had 4 plays that not every QB would make in the game. of them resulted in TD's, and the fourth sealed the game for the win. I don't know, but that seems like a big play QB in my book. If he can't get it done one way, he will in a different way.

Bradshaw played in an era where players could go on coke binges, bang groupies in the local clubs, and get into fights with unruly fans who wanted to try them. And, there weren't league investigations or suspensions then for ungentlemanly conduct. There weren't cell phone cameras or Twitter feeds every time a pro player farted in the wrong direction.

Just read a few frank accounts from players back in the day. I used to love Art Donovan when he was on ESPN because he told it like it was instead of regurgitating the company line.

I think though, HTG, that your statement actually makes my argument stronger. TB reached out to Ben, and Ben rebuffed him, and then proceeded to make many of the same mistakes. Either way, I do think it is kind of silly to think that TB's jealous of Ben. It'll take two more SB's back to back for him to even begin to achieve that level.

I think your right about this in some way. I think Terry sometimes feels he is the media's representative for the Steelers because he was on the team. Hell, he's the only one that ever seems to pick them to win most of the time.

I believe a lot of this came about when Ben said to Terry... "I'm going to break all your records."

Now, you can speculate if Ben said it in a joking manner, but Terry's the one who took it to heart, and since then they have had this dysfunctional relationship. Knowing Terry, it could take another 20 years for them to make amends. He seems to like his grudges... warranted, or not. :noidea:
