After this game with the Bengals and what is sure to be another battle of attrition with the Ravens, I am strongly penciling in the NE Patriots game as a loss - simply because they won't have enough healthy bodies.

We need JuJu to appeal and play this week. Win this game and win the division. Let the rest of the chips fall where they may.

I was going to start this thread this morning, but after what happened to Shazier, I deferred.
This game means something to both teams. A chance for the Steelers to clinch the division. A chance for the Ravens to maintain sole possession of the #6 seed for the WC. So neither team is going to hold back (not like they ever do anyway). If Baltimore's offense plays like they did against Detroit, they have a chance. If they show up like they did against da Bears, forget it.
Not to mention losing Jimmy Smith. It's hard enough to cover AB anyway. Putting a rookie on AB (even though Humphry has played well enough) could be disastrous. But Brandon Williams is back, so while Bell will likely break a couple for nice gains, I don't think he will run roughshod over the Ravens D.
I know it's the primetime GOTW, but I still prefer meeting at 1:00.

Only break the Steelers get is it will be the Pats third game in a row on the road with a short week after playing the Dolphins next Monday night

In addition to its many other failings, the league office screwed up the scheduling with 4 night games in a row - the Steelers are a popular team but NBC might be ready for a change after having the Steelers repeatedly since mid-November

i feel the same way. we absolutely have the talent to take it to them big time, but I doubt Shazier and Haden play, let alone play at their normal level.
however im really encouraged by the resolve of this team and if theres any steelers squad since the 2008 team that can beat the patriots in their own house (should that occasion arrive), i really do think its this one
that being said, i think the ravens will give us a much tougher game and Flacco will abuse whatever sorry excuse of a defensive formation that we try to make up for Shazier's absence.

line opened at 7, pretty shocking considering normally in these games home team by 3. They're both on winning streaks but in very different ways. Steelers have won last 3 on last drive of game against bad teams, Ravens have been shutting out teams and scoring some points. I quit betting on games years ago but I would not give Ravens that many points. Steelers 27-24.

The opening line at 7 was posted before the Monday night game was played. I agree it is still too high given the Steelers ILB and secondary issues along with Ju Ju's suspension having been upheld.

I felt the same about last night. As much as I enjoy a Steelers loss lol, a Bungles loss virtually eliminated Cincy from playoff competition, whereas had they won, the last game of the season may have been a lot more important than simply playing the role of a spoiler.
I think Pittsburgh should be favored, but I don’t see the 7 point line. 4-1/2 makes more sense to me.

I think you're right. Especially with the injuries that have suddenly decimated the team.
The Steelers will need to play very well to get a win in this matchup. The offense is going to have to put some points up on that terrific Ravens defense to win this one.

I can't predict scores so I don't even try. But as far as the game....I think the Steeler's win this one. I just feel with Shazier being out and seriously injured and with JuJu out, our guys will have a BROTHERLY mental attitude that will rise to the occasion. And with being at HOME the crowd will be that much needed extra player to keep them motivated. Ben is much better than Flacco, and we all saw what he can do when coming from behind and when the game is on the line. Bell, Brown and Bryant will have attitude to unleash. And Boz......well, you know his handy work. I know with it being a rival and division game all facts/figures are thrown out the window. But I feel this game is going to be either a runaway or something like a 1 point win. GO STEELERS

I'm pretty sure we lose either this one or the one @Houston. I had @Houston circled earlier because Watson would have shredded our D (look at what he did in Seattle to the Seahawks!), but with his injury not so sure.
But on the plus side, we can lose one of those games without any consequences, because if we beat them Taperiots we still get the #1 seed. And if we don't, we don't get the #1 seed.

"In that one [with the Bengals], it feels like almost, just, you're out there to hit people, and we don't feel the same respect from them that Baltimore and we have," Roethlisberger said Wednesday. "I'm not really sure why."...
"The difference between this game and the Cincinnati game is these two teams -- us and Baltimore -- there's always a respect involved in it," Roethlisberger said. "You're going to get hit really hard or you're going to hit somebody really hard, but you're going to help them up and say, 'Man, nice job.'
"At the end of it, you're going to shake hands and give the other guy a hug and say that was a lot of fun and can't wait to do it next year. It's a fun rivalry in the sense that there's a lot of respect and there are two good football teams."

Ben Roethlisberger: 'Always a respect' for Steelers-Ravens rivalry
Jamison Hensley
ESPN Staff Writer
Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger says there is more of a mutual respect in the Pittsburgh Steelers' rivalry with the Baltimore Ravens than the one they have with the Cincinnati Bengals.
Roethlisberger's comments in a conference call with Baltimore reporters came two days after two players were disciplined for illegal hits made during Monday night's game between the Steelers and Bengals.
"In that one [with the Bengals], it feels like almost, just, you're out there to hit people, and we don't feel the same respect from them that Baltimore and we have," Roethlisberger said Wednesday."

The Ravens , who play the Steelers at Heinz Field on Sunday night, began their team meeting Wednesday with a prayer for Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier and his recovery from the spinal cord injury he suffered Monday night....
Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday afternoon the prayer before the team meeting was for Shazier’s well-being.

To be honest I think they always start our lines high when we are favored, its the only way they can get anyone to bet the other side. I am not a gambler by any means so I'm no expert but If I was going to bet on the Steelers I would wait till the end of the week for the more accurate line. These games with Baltimore are always 3 pointers, I would never give up more than three unless they had a 3rd string QB playing. Even then I would be cautious. Well because you know, they are the Steelers and they seem to love to keep it interesting. :chuckle:

Matakevich's injury likely will keep him on the sidelines against the Ravens. For the Steelers, that means the starting spot will filled by recently signed Sean Spence — the team's third-round draft pick in 2012 — or outside linebacker Arthur Moats.

From what I've seen of their games, they've been running a few "fake punt" plays early in games to keep a drive going and have been pretty successful doing it.
Their gunner (#10) breaks off the line like it's normal punt coverage, then Koch times his throw when the gunner suddenly breaks back to the ball.
Watch it Danny....it's on the tape.

Four passes. Four completions. Highest rated “QB” in the league!

Moats will be targeted by Captain Checkdown a ton. Dealing with that will be the key. Moats was great against the run inside for Buffalo but really struggled in coverage. And that was when he was 4 years younger!

The Steelers can clinch the division with a tie, right? Has that ever been done before?

Yes, the Steelers win the AFC North with a win or tie against the Ravens.

I meant has a team ever clinched their division with a tie. Of course, I'd rather win!

Great question.
But don't ask Donovan McNabb.

He’s gotten better in coverage with 4 more years experience...lol. In theory...

This could be a very tough game.
These teams have virtually identical points for and against...with the difference in records arguably being the Steelers prevailing in a LOT of close games.

Important game for the Steelers, got to keep up with New England and keep distance from Jacksonville (thanks a lot Bitch Pigeons). Also, if the Steelers lose tonight, the Ravens could easily get within a game in the division next week simply by beating Cleveland and by Pittsburgh losing to New England. It's an important game

Haven't done that since 2008. :tt02:

If anyone predicted a 39-38 score, you are one in a bilion.
At 0-14, I thought the Ravens were toast. The offense (both offenses) played a helluva game. I think both defenses took the night off.

The home Ravens win and road Bengals win were too close

Fun fact: on the year the ravens have a better net point differential.

That is the latest angle by which to slam the Steelers - this from The Ringer this morning
Pittsburgh is 7-1 in single-score games, an unsustainable record that may point to deeper vulnerabilities....
The Steelers may be tied for the best record in football, but their plus-69 point differential is ninth in the league.

This will be a big concern when the selection committee decides which teams are going to the playoffs
