Thx for the link :drink:

But not even the greatest Steelers team

The 1975 team (12-2/would have been 13-1 if they had not taken off the week 14 game against the Rams to rest for the playoffs) had the defense at its epic peak (sacked Staubach 7 times in the Super Bowl) along with Swann (11 TD) and Franco (career high 1246 yards) having great seasons on offense

ESPN analytics site FiveThirtyEight has what it calls the ELO index - over their history ELO calculates the Steelers peaked at 1777 after the Super Bowl X win

Not sure how the 85 bears were not in the top 5. Dominant defense, and the offense scored over 400 points. Dominated the playoffs. And to include 2 super bowl losers who lost to vastly inferior teams including 1 at no. 3?

People forget the 75 team. The defense dominated (8 of 11 starters went to Pro Bowl). Mel Blount had 11 picks (11! in 14 games)

Offense? 7 games 30 points or more - this was a running team. Bradshaw barely got 2000 yards passing.

(Sidenote: The Rams seemed to play the Steelers tough in the 70s. Beat the Steelers in 75 and 78 their best 2 seasons. SB XIV was a dogfight)

The 8 Steelers teams that made the SB, the '72 Dolphins since they went undefeated, and the '85 Bears, the defense that all others compare to. There's your top10 of all time.

And if the 76 team had a healthy Franco and Rocky (both 1000+ yds.) playing in the AFC Championship game and beyond, we'd be including them in the discussion.

11 Pro Bowlers. Defense gives up 28 points over last 9 games. 5 shutouts in a 14 game season. :applaudit:
