It looks like one of the young CB's are going to be activated. Let's see if Allen or Sutton can play.

I would hope to see that as well. Easily activate Allen - just swap him and Haden on the game-day roster.
But Sutton gets tricky. If Haden can potentially come back for the playoffs - he can't go on IR.
So now you still have the "where on the roster does Sutton go?" question.
If I was the GM, I would go light at either one of the LB spots (Stevie Johnson?) or roll the dice and let Big Dan McCullers go and hope that the position flexibility of the rest of the DL group can get me through the season.
We should find out what the Steelers will do as soon as Haden gets an official time-line. Expect a move tomorrow, maybe?

I'd cut McCullers. He serves no purpose.

Haden can be placed on IR and still return once he is healthy.

With the new IR rules, they may be able to place him on IR and bring him back if he is ready this season. If they do that they don't have to make room on the roster for him until they bring him back.

Correct. IR doesn't apply in post season.

Ok. Did the do away with the whole "you can only do that once thing"? Because I thought Sutton was the Steelers chance to do the IR and return thing?
Oops! Here is a pretty decent summary of it -- https://www.cincyjungle.com/2017/7/27/16026610/nfl-training-camps-2017-pup-nfi-ir-roster-designations
So take Sutton off IR and put Haden on IR and he can come back in 8 weeks. So either for the Week 17 game or for the 1st playoff game?
Am I reading this right?

2 players can return from IR, they changed the rule in the offseason.
Tbh, they need to let any player come off IR when they are healthy.

Ok. But what about the whole 8 weeks thing? Does that stop applying if there are 8 weeks or less? That's the part that is confusing me.

I'm not sure, I'll guess assume it won't matter. Hopefully we'll find out more soon.

Here is an Injured Reserve Tracker I found. It lists everyone that has been on IR or who is still on IR, how much their cap hit is, the cash value, and those players "Designated to Return".

She seems to confirm what the SD doctor says above. High fracture is "best" case scenario

I know a lot of times if we see a high fibula fracture where I work, the docs usually don't even put them in anything. I also know there are different rules for pro athletes. At the lower end, it's called a broken ankle. At the high end of the same bone, just really sore. Sort of like ribs in that as long as there's no danger of the break causing more damage, it's let pain be your guide. Hopefully he's not down long at all.

He does a weekly spot on NFL Radio and it’s really good and insightful. He brings some good “truth” to a lot of the rumors surrounding injuries.

Joe Haden could miss only three weeks
Posted by Mike Florio on November 12, 2017
The news initially was bad regarding Steelers cornerback Joe Haden. It may not be quite as bad as at first feared.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Haden could miss only three weeks with a slight fracture of the fibula. The injury will not require surgery.
The Steelers face the Titans, Packers, Bengals, and Ravens before a showdown with the Patriots in Week 15.
Haden, signed by the Steelers after being cut by the Browns in August, has started all nine games this year. His absence will mean more reps for Coty Sensabaugh and veteran William Gay.

Assuming it’s only 3 weeks, IMO, the Steelers “should” rest him until December 17th.
(Flacco is the 33rd ranked QB this year; no need to rush Haden back for that game.)

Was thinking about Vontae Davis or maybe Revis as a long term sub...but maybe not necessary.

I'm sure he'll want to play that last game vs the Stains, though.

I know what you're saying, but I'd definitely prefer him back a week or so before that. Let him get in and get a couple weeks' worth of reps against before heading into the playoffs.

I would like him back for the Ravens game so he can shake off the rust for the Pats. I want the Pats game and we will need to play 100% mistake free on that. Without Haden we will play Zone Def and get carved up like usual, and probably lose our home field advantage.

I 100% agree, In my mind the Steelers need Home field against New England, the Pats at home would shut down the Run game and make the Steelers a pass only team which would spell disaster for Ben who is atrocious on the road

Steelers cornerback Joe Haden making 'good progress' from broken leg

Joe Haden didn't want to talk about the New England Patriots on Wednesday. Just not for the same reason as his teammates.
While most Steelers teammates preferred not discussing the matchup against the Patriots in three weeks — the “elephant in the room,” according to coach Mike Tomlin — Haden doesn't have the luxury of looking ahead to any games on the schedule with a degree of certainty.
Three days after shedding the crutches he used since fracturing his fibula, the veteran cornerback offered no timetable for his return.
It could be against the Patriots on Dec. 17. It could be for the Houston Texans on Christmas Day or the Cleveland Browns on New Year's Eve. Or maybe it won't be until the playoffs in January.
Haden doesn't have the immediate answer. The only certainty is he won't play in a third consecutive game Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium.

Although riding a bike isn't the same as running, it's great to see him doing it. One concern that hasn't been discussed is conditioning. At least being able to ride a bike means he can work on it a little until he gets back on the field.
