The Steelers (http://www.espn.com/nfl/team/_/name/pit/pittsburgh-steelers) will recognize Veterans Day this weekend by wearing helmet decals representing the various Army divisions in an effort led by left tackle Alejandro Villanueva (http://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/16706/alejandro-villanueva).Villanueva, whose background as a former Army Ranger made him a prominent figure in the league's controversy over the national anthem, told ESPN he is presenting each Steelers teammate with a helmet decal representing one of 13 Army divisions for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts (http://www.espn.com/nfl/team/_/name/ind/indianapolis-colts).

"It's just a small-unit patch that really doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, but the history behind it means the whole world to a lot of veterans," Villanueva said. "They died for that patch. When you watch the Steelers on Sunday and you see the flash of the 10th round division and the 7th round division ... you're calling out specific units."...

He is pairing the decals with players whose personalities match the spirit of a specific division.

The decal matching the player's personality will be interesting - what division decal will Deebo get? :chuckle:

Don't be surprised if they are fined for having the decals visible.

First of all I doubt it. That would be very bad optics for an organization that honors our armed forces yearly. Secondly, who cares? If you're honoring someone in the military and have hundreds of thousands of dollars I doubt a measly fine is going to prevent you from doing it. Lastly, I would bet that the Steelers and AV have already contacted the league with their/his idea.

:director:- GET OFF MY LAWN!! GRRR!

The league is thrilled - AV did not do it for this reason but it is a brilliant PR move to counter the anthem mess

This isn’t anything new, players have been doing this for years and have had the decals on their helmets for a couple weeks now...

1st Armored ("Old Ironsides") or 2nd Armored ("Hell on Wheels") both fit.
"Old Ironsides" seems to be the best match IMO. :drink:
