PITTSBURGH — Imagine how the Steelers’ offense would look if Chris Johnson was their halfback?

The Tennessee Titans running back is arguably the best in the National Football League. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, however, took that notion one step further by saying an argument could be made that Johnson is “the best player in the world right now.”
Yet, when the Steelers had the chance to pick Johnson in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft, they passed on him. Instead, they opted for Rashard Mendenhall................

Johnson will get all or most of the carries against the Steelers in his bid to break the NFL record for most consecutive 100-yard games. Detroit’s Barry Sanders set the record with 14 straight in 1997. Johnson has 12 in a row dating back to last year.

“Stopping him is a priority,” Steelers outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley said. “In order for him to keep his streak going, he has the challenge of taking on us.”

We have held Johnson to less than 70 yards rushing both times we've played them. This should be very interesting...

It might have been nice to have picked up Johnson in the first round but remember, Mendenhall still averaged 4.6 yards per carry last year (Johnson was 5.6) which is still pretty damn good especially considering the condition of our O-line!

Basically, CJ is the Titans' entire offense as Vince Young is almost as useless as tits on a bull. With a healthy Mendy, Ben, Hines, Heath, Wallace, El and our youngins Sanders and Brown, our O stands heads and shoulders above just about any O out there. Hopefully Dixon can have a solid game and the OL gives him the time to accomplish great things out there!

Though I have mad respect for CJ, I'd be quite content to have a healthy Mendy to git 'r done in the backfield. He showed his stuff last Sunday and I think if he can stay healthy, he's going to have a spectacular season!

If Chuck Norris were on a football team, he would be the football team.

Johnson is supposedly better than the previous times the Steelers faced him. It should be an interesting battle.

You notice the previous teams Johnson faced during his streak didn't exactly have the greatest of run defenses. Not one Ravens, Vikings, Jets, or Steelers on that list.

Last Sunday in a 38-13 romp over Oakland, Johnson picked up where he left off last year by rushing for 142 yards with over half coming on a 76-yard TD run.

He sucks if you take away his long runs. :chuckle:

That's the point, CJ is the entire team and if our defense can shut him down and make him a non factor the Steeler could easily win this game. I don't think VY could win a game on his own or the Titans defense either, so I say shut down the run, put your entire defensive playbook to stop the run and let's get out of there with a W.

I agree, he hasn't had big games against us and there is no reason to think it will be any different this weekend. I'm expecting some monster D from our Boys this week!

Vince Young was 13/17 for ~150 yards 2 TDs 0 INTs last week. Those aren't ball manager numbers. I think a lot of people are taking him too lightly.

Sure but who were they playin'? The raiders aren't exactly the cream o' the crop defenses.

We have contained him before. We damn well better do it again or we'll lose this ballgame.
/simple as that.

Exactly we don't have to worry about catching him if we contain him first.
