What the?

- - - Updated - - -

This makes zero sense, what would that leave us with like 3 ILBers?

Release Fort to sign Johnny Maxey maybe? Or Lavon Hooks?

Release Fort to sign Johnny Maxey maybe? Or Lavon Hooks?Maybe, but we have enough depth for the few games that Tuitt will miss already with Hargrave, McCullers, Alualu, and Heyward. With as often as Shazier gets dinged, I find this perplexing. Fake News?

This is a Houston Chronicle writer. Why would he be the first to tweet about a Steeler transaction?? Strange.

Has to be to sign another DL. Gotta figure they roll the dice on Matakevich and Moats being able to man the inside in case of disaster.

As much as we all like Fort - he has the best chance of clearing waivers and ending up back on the team in a few weeks.

Send him to the Raiders! We need all the LB's we can get!

I actually prefer Fort , much more athletic LB but its not my team to run so there is that

Me too, he had some wheels. The fact that they say "terminated" in the tweet tells me he did something to get himself fired.

I didn't see much of a difference between Fort and Johnson leading up to this season.

Preseason play changed my view. I thought Fort clearly outplayed Johnson and would be a better backup.

Discipline? Special teams screw-ups?

Definitely seems like Fort did SOMETHING to piss off upper management.

Yea, he had to have done something since they said that they "terminated" him. I like him over Johnson any day so that's a loss in talent.

not just that but athletically he is far better suited to backup Shazier without having to totally rework the game plan

Johnson IMO is a poor mans dirty red / vince williams ... giving you 3 bigger bodied less athletic ILBs and Shazier , truth be told not sure Johnson sees the field ahead of Moats ( listed as an OLB ) at ILB ..a redundant signing to me

ok the latest is this ...

Fort was pretty vocal ( apparently disrespectful too ) about the lack of playing time on defense , the reason I say disrespectful is every coach wants players who want to play , so his message had to be pretty disrespectful and probably vulgarity laced to or towards a member of the coaching staff ...

we may have seen the last of Fort and perhaps this is why New England let him go a few years back ...

mystery solved apparently

Fort has been added to the practice squad, Matt Galambos has been released.

This is interesting. If the disrespect stuff happened, I wouldn't think that we'd sign him to the practice squad unless if they're trying to teach him a lesson.

Fort being added to PS makes the twitter rumblings sketchy .... so now all we are left with is " coaches decision" which makes absolutely no sense to me ..the rumblings made way more sense

It would appear the initial release of Johnson prior to the Week 1 clash with the Cleveland Browns and subsequent re-signing after the game was done to avoid owing him a guaranteed salary for the season. If Johnson had been on the roster on opening day, his annual salary would have been guaranteed, now it will not be and he can be released at any time without penalty.

makes sense with a big contract guy , but a league min vet that hasnt been vested long the savings is not that significant if he is what they think he is and they keep him ...

I just hate this move I guess , Fort is IMO a better player and a closer comparison in skill set to Shazier than Johnson is ... meaning game plan does not have to change as much if Fort enters for Shaz vs Johnson entering for Shaz ..the move just makes little sense to me..... if we where talking about VW's backup then this makes all the sense in the world but we are not as Dirty Red has that job

Word from an inside source is that some prankster farted and blamed it on him, and everyone started calling him "L.J. Fart," so he flipped out and broke some kid's nose.

I bet it was Boswell's idea, that guy is pretty twisted.

My best guess is that Fort and Johnson are going to shuttle off the roster all season whenever the Steelers need a spot. Team is going to gamble that these guys are more valuable to them than any other team and they can get them through waivers multiple times.

They want to top Brandon Brown Dukes or whatever his name is, for most transactions in year.
