"I'm Not A Football Expert"

Roger Goodell, commissioner of the National Football League for 11 years as of this week, was asked on FS1's First Things First if he believes Colin Kaepernick should have a place on an NFL roster.

Cris Carter told Goodell that as a former player, seeing “someone like Joe Webb get signed as a third-stringer in Buffalo” is “disturbing.” When Carter asked if Goodell is “troubled by Kaepernick not being on an opening day roster,” the commissioner said the NFL is “always about meritocracy and opportunity,” adding that he likes to see “everyone get an opportunity—including Colin—but those are decisions made by football people.”

Carter’s co-host Nick Wright followed up on Goodell’s answer, asking him if, after watching Kaepernick play last year, he believed the quarterback was good enough to make an NFL roster.

Goodell replied: “One thing I do as a commissioner is, I don’t make those decisions. I’m not a football expert.” The commissioner added that he’s a huge fan of the game, but he’s not a “football person.”

I like to make fun of Goodell too, but what was he supposed to say? If he says no, he's saying Kap is not good enough to play in the league. If he says yes, he's feeding their 'poor mistreated' agenda. He deflected it without saying anything like any of us would have in the same shoes.

Roger must wish he could go back to the good old days of just needing to cover up what happened in Spygate while denying any relationship between football and CTE :chuckle:

The president of Las Vegas’s police union sent a letter to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Thursday (https://twitter.com/Vanessa_Murphy/status/905845854128529408) asking the league to “conduct an investigation, and take appropriate action, into Michael Bennett’s obvious false allegations against our officers.”

On Thursday, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/09/07/nfl-wont-investigate-michael-bennett/), "There is no allegation of a violation of the league's personal conduct policy and therefore there is no basis for an NFL investigation."

On Wednesday, Bennett accused officers of using excessive force while detaining him last month amid reports of an active shooter. (There was no shooter; the noise casino patrons heard that sparked the panic was the sound of marble statues hitting the floor.) He also alleged that he was singled out by police because he is black. One officer pointed a gun at Bennett’s head and threatened to “blow [his] f---ing head off,” he said.

Here's an applicable equation: Not a good QB + Media distraction + Asking for too much money = not signed
