It was obvious that the steelers were going to add a safety.....

38 starts in the league all with the Cowboys , he is best as a box safety/SS in 2015 Dallas has him listed as a s/Lb/SS/fs

that is not to say he can not cover because he can just better suited closer to LOS

I like it he is not on his last leg and has starter exp

One definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result - the most recent Pats blowout appears to have convinced Colbert maintaining the status quo will get the Steelers to the playoffs but not where they want to go

I like this summation on what is going on (just the tweet - do not subscribe to obtain article)

At least they are trying to build a winner. Get the players together and see what happens not to mention some good play be recent FA signings in the Carolina game could indicate a lucky streak.

Sutton will go in IR when Bell will sign, but the question is who is going to be the other player who is going to be released or go on IR.

I know the teams can have 2 players in IR who can return later in the season but I hope that Mitchell's injury is not serious ...

I agree with your post and the sentiment in the Tweet. I posted in another thread that this Tomlin's "ballsiest" roster. Keeping an athlete like Grimble over DJ. Keeping Watson over French Cafe. Hilton over Cockrell. I could go on.

They picked the athlete and youth almost every time. Only time that didn't happen was Coates over DHB/Hunter. Like someone else said, that likely came down to Coates had trade value - the other two did not.

2 years 8.5. Ward was 1 for 5. Did they make the right decision given that the money was about the same?

I can see him being a 3rd down dime backer.

VW comes off, Wilcox replaces him.

The steelers could put him in the ILB position against GB and NE for almost the entire game.

I don't think Ward was ever going to sign with the Steelers.

One has said that with all the move that the steelers had made in the last few days,Ben should've started the retirement talk a bit earlier!

I don't know what to say. I thought I would never see it again. But, that's a young safety who delivers hits but also wraps up and drives through the tackle.

I bet he's a time traveler.

I know it is highlight packages and there is a reason(s) that he has burned through 2 rosters in a short career, but I like him better than Robert Golden already.

If the front 4 can get pressure, Shazier covers the tight end(s), and JJ can take on covering RB's. That could be a recipe for success.

I think a bit of that is over-blown. If they had signed Revis and Barnridge, I would've been on board with the "all in" talk. But look what they actually were able to do.

They improved areas of weakness, patched holes, etc and they did it by not signing anyone over 28. They did not take on any unreasonable contracts nor contracts that are a long-term burden.

Did they help their championship chances this year? Absolutely. But did they add to a roster with players that could be part of a multi-year window? Yes and for me that is the most important part. This wasn't some drunken spending binge on veterans to have one last rodeo chasing a ring. This was savvy roster construction and aggressively pursuing potential assets.

That is true.

Now I;m picturing an absolutely hammered Mike Tomlin wearing sunglasses inside at night and just speaking in random Tomlinisms and cliches.

Mike, want another round?

Obviously. I'm not going to live in my fears. It is what it is. Set em up.

Good point, but I do not remember seeing Colbert being aggressive like that, but I'm very happy with the moves since it improves 3 weaknesses that the steelers had (TE, CB and S)

I do not know if Colbert would have made his moves if Roethlisberger would have been younger or he would not have talk of retirement.

One thing is sure, the steelers are ready to compete against every team!

Yeah, no doubt. He can hit, and all but one of them looked legal as well. If he brings that to the Steelers, it's going to be a fun season.

Maintaining the status quo of keeping the Ross Cockrells and Antwon Blakes of the world will get you to the playoffs, but will fail against the elite, namely the Patriots.

Will fall against those teams who game plan with the resources available to consistently beat a weak secondary. You cannot win in a passing league with low grade DBs. At least not on a regular basis or deep into the playoffs no matter how good the offense is rated.
