So they got a pick for Coates and a pick for cockrell. Ok overall a good day for the team

Now they need to add a safety...

Huh.

As for safety, Will Blackmon got cut. He's 32, but still has gas in the tank, is a great team leader, and a great all-around guy from what I understand. Not only that, but he still has good skills that will help this team. Personally, I don't have a problem at all with our two starting safeties, but if we don't get a bigger name, I'd love to see Blackmon come in as the third safety.

This off season has been almost perfect with the exception of MLB IMO.

Great trade and I'm happy if all they got was a $25 dollar Amazon gift card for him. Or a $ 25 donation in the Steelers name to help the flood victims in Texas.

I agree. I cant remember a year when they were able to trade away guys on cut down day and get picks like this.

Cobi Hamilton gone, Croissant gone, Coates gone, Cockring is gone too.

Steelers seem to not be content with waiting for guys to "get it together" until Week 10, when the Defense goes from a seive to just decent, and fighting to the very end for playoff seeding. Not great/1st round bye playoff seeding mind you, but rather 4th-6th seeding. While Oakland/Kansas City sits in front of them.

Wether these moves pan out or not, it would be nice to not wait on other teams to lose at the end of the season... just for a wildcard spot for once.

Add in Colin Holba and you got the "Weakly C's" outta here.

What a wasted pick! Just like we all said at the time.

I liked the pick as he did grade out as one of the best long snappers available. Somebody was likely going to draft him in the 7th, but its not the first time a 6th round pick didn't make an active roster.

I hope the guy they kept becomes as reliable as Greg Warren, but if I recall, Vance McDonald can also long snap in a pinch.

I just hope we will not lose a game because of our long snapper.

It has already happened to the New York Giants in 2002 in a playoff game....

That move would be Sutton to short term IR to rehab hamstring

And this year the rule changed to have 2 on IR-DTR

Probably something like a 6th, but if he plays a number of snaps it becomes a 5th.

Interesting that the Steelers sign the Giants castoff Sensabaugh and then trade for Cockrell. I wish the kid the best. Personally I think he plays better CB than Sensabaugh, but probably more of a fact that he doesn't fit long term and he has some value to move.

This is the only info I found, we'll see if this is true sooner rather than later I'm sure.

Steelers will have a total of 9 draft picks next year counting a 5th round compensatory pick I'm expecting for Timmons leaving.

When the fans start calling you Cockring, it's time to go.

Some of us called him that from Day One...lol.

Some of us called him that from Day One...lol. I always referred to him as Cockroll. Because he would always roll on it after whiffing trying to defend a WR catching the ball.

Turns out Peter King is a Cockrell fan

I think the one under-the-radar acquisition I loved over the weekend was the Giants dealing a low-round pick for Steelers cornerback Ross Cockrell. New York gets a feisty and physical insurance policy at a vital position. Watch the Steelers practice, as I did one day in August, and Cockrell really stands out for his run-support and fearlessness.

Also really stood out for his inability to cover anyone in preseason

Cockrell is a good zone corner, but not good in man to man situation....

No question he was a hard worker and bright guy who performed up to his abilities, which are those of a backup

Giants have one of the better secondaries in the league and hopefully it works out for him there

I agree. He gave the Steelers everything he had while he was here.

When playing in the old defensive scheme used in the secondary, he was the best they had. After adding some young talent and a big free agent to play a different style, he became expendable.

I wish him nothing but the best.

Cockrell would've likely been our best corners in 2013 and 2014. Cockrell stands out as one of those Brice McCain-types. A DB that is popular with the coaching staff and our zone scheme.

Now that the Steelers are manning up in hopes of standing a better chance against the Patriots, he couldn't keep up with even second and third stringers in the preseason. The dude simply cannot cover. He's a Zone corner.

Best of luck to Cockrell.

As long as the O-LINE doesn't have assignment issue they'll be fine. The Defense is going to have lapses. It's just going to be part of the process on that side of the ball.
